Cough is a reflex phenomenon occurring when sensitive receptors located in the larynx and upper airways are activated. These receptors generate information which reaches the central nervous system. With this method, however, true gain may be underestimated in frequency regions of normal or near-normal hearing sensitivity (i.e., in cases of sloping, rising, or trough-shaped audiograms). PURPOSE: To compare the effect of etomidate versus propofol infusion on hemodynamic profiles, spontaneous breathing, and corneal reflex during the induction of anesthesia.
