BACKGROUND: Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) is produced by ovarian follicles and is clinically reflective of reproductive aging. AMH has been associated with the severity of steatohepatitis in those with known metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), although its association with prevalent MASLD is not known.
METHODS: Using the multicenter longitudinal Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults cohort, we evaluated the association of low AMH levels in healthy young women with subsequent MASLD in midlife, assessed by CT scan 10 years later. Alternate causes of steat

Restrictions on bisphenol A (BPA), continued exposure to phthalates, and the emergence of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) have altered the plastic-associated exposure landscape relevant to human reproduction. Existing reviews commonly address these exposures separately or summarize broad reproductive outcomes. This review instead develops a comparative mechanistic framework centered on two connected mechanisms: disruption of gonadotropin-responsive steroidogenesis and oxidative stress, inflammation, and barrier dysfunction. Human biomonitoring, reproductive-tissue, fertility-clinic, and epidemi…

Immune dysregulation has been linked to adverse reproductive outcomes, yet its biocultural determinants remain underexplored. This study examines how environmental inequality and embodied life history factors intersect to shape pregnancy loss among women in two socio-environmentally distinct, low-resource US communities. We hypothesized that indicators of immune activation and reproductive history would be associated with increased likelihood of pregnancy loss. Data were collected from 112 women (ages 22-84) with prior pregnancies residing in rural Mississippi and periurban Illinois. Surveys c

INTRODUCTION: Reproductive autonomy is defined as the right to make independent decisions regarding sexuality, contraception, pregnancy, and childbirth without coercion. The Reproductive Autonomy Scale (RAS) is the first instrument to assess decision-making, freedom from coercion, and communication in reproductive contexts and has been validated in several languages. The objective of this study was to validate the RAS in a German context and explore its application in an Austrian student population, including its use with men.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A comprehensive set of descriptive statisti

The goal of the current study was to explore attachment theory and reproductive success across the three cultural contexts of Japan, Canada and the USA. We investigate how adult attachment styles (secure, fearful, preoccupied and dismissive) are associated with reproductive success, as measured by the number of children. Using data collected from 15,120 participants via an online survey, we found fearful and preoccupied attachment styles were positively associated with reproductive success across all three samples, indicating that these insecure attachment styles may promote behaviours linked

We analyze discrete-time Leslie-Gower competition models featuring Beverton-Holt survivability and interspecific mating to explore interactions between two Aedes mosquito species. By incorporating larval resource competition and asymmetric reproductive interference (satyrization), we identify conditions for equilibrium existence and local stability. We specifically examine how the mating competitiveness of Ae. albopictus and its interference with Ae. aegyptidrive competitive displacement or coexistence of the two mosquito species. Our results demonstrate that satyrization significantly alters

Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are heterogeneous, biologically variable tumours arising from the diffuse neuroendocrine system. While more frequently seen in older patients, the incidence and prevalence of NETs in the younger population are increasing. In addition, because of their generally slow progression and favourable prognosis, coupled with widely available effective treatments, survival times even with metastatic tumours may often be prolonged. However, there is a paucity of data on the effect of treatment of NETs on men's and women's reproductive and sexual health. In this review, we ha

Riboflavin (vitamin B₂; RF) and its derivatives flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) are indispensable cofactors for redox reactions in plants. While higher plants possess a conserved pathway for de novo RF biosynthesis, how flavins are transported and spatially distributed between tissues remains unresolved. In particular, the molecular identity of plasma membrane (PM) transporters involved in flavin transport in plants remains largely unknown. Here, we identify Arabidopsis purine permease 5 (AtPUP5) as a PM-localized protein associated with RF transport and its d

Light exposure plays a fundamental role in human physiology, influencing circadian rhythms, hormonal regulation, and reproductive health. This review examines the multifaceted impact of natural and artificial light on women's reproductive function, with particular emphasis on mechanisms underlying light-mediated biological processes. Evidence demonstrates that light exposure affects melatonin secretion, which in turn modulates reproductive hormones including luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and sex steroids. Disruption of natural light-dark cycles through shift work, artifici

European research has played a pioneering role in advancing reproductive biology and embryology, contributing transformative innovations in assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs). Landmark achievements-from the development of artificial insemination and sperm cryopreservation to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)-have dramatically improved fertility outcomes in both humans and animals. These breakthroughs have enabled increased reproductive success, genetic gain, and productivity in livestock, while also addressing the global burden of infertility in hu

Commercially available disposable products such as cell culture utensils and catheters do not necessarily possess sufficient quality for in vitro fertilization (IVF), from the perspective of pyrogen contamination. We aimed to comprehensively analyze the pyrogen contamination status, including bacterial endotoxins, of the products used for IVF in assisted reproductive technology (ART) and improve their cleanliness using a new sterilization technology. Pyrogen contamination levels were evaluated using a direct human cell-based pyrogen test that is not affected by the recovery ratio, unlike bacte

BACKGROUND: In humans and other mammals, female reproduction is linked to extensive changes in physiology, immunity, hormones, and behavior. These changes likely shape, and may be shaped by, the composition of gut microbial communities. Characterizing the dynamics of gut microbial change across reproductive states, including its relationship to female physiology, is important for understanding how the gut microbiota influences female and offspring health.
RESULTS: Here we characterize longitudinal changes in gut microbiota across reproduction by combining 16S rRNA gene sequencing data from 4,…

Papayas possess three sex genotypes: female XX, male XY, and hermaphrodite XYh. Only male plants produce long peduncles with numerous flowers, a trait that improves reproductive success. The gene SHORT VEGETATIVE PHASE (CpSVP) is located on the Y chromosome, absent from the X chromosome, and disrupted in the Yh chromosome, making it a key candidate gene for long peduncles in male plants. An autosomal CpSVP allele (CpSVP-A) was also annotated in a papaya genome. The overexpression of the male allele in Arabidopsis increases pedicel length, which supports its role in pedicel elongation. Unexpect

The endemic Minuartia nifensis, the only known gynodioecious species of its genus, offers a suitable model for understanding the relationships between floral characteristics, pollination, and mating systems in species with narrow distributions and single populations. We analyzed population structure, floral morphology, pollen viability, stigma receptivity, mating system components, and pollinator assemblages using field observations, morphometric measurements, controlled pollination experiments (autogamy, allogamy, apomixis and open pollination), and standardized pollinator surveys. Female reproductive health encompasses fertility, safe pregnancy and childbirth, and is vital throughout the entire life of women. Tryptophan, an essential amino acid in humans, is involved in protein synthesis and the generation of bioactive substances related to the health and disorders of multiple systems. An increasing number of studies have shown that tryptophan metabolism is closely related to female reproductive health. Tryptophan metabolism occurs mainly through the kynurenine, serotonin, and indole pathways and yields various bioactive substances. The homeostasis of this metabolism mo
