Anorexia nervosa (AN) patients may present with cardiac autonomic system dysfunction. Power spectral analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) is a reliable noninvasive examination for the quantitative assessment of the central sympathovagal interaction that modulates cardiovascular autonomic function. In the present study, HRV parameters were assessed in female adolescent AN inpatients in the malnourished phase at admission, at discharge when achieving weight restoration, and 24-36 months after discharge, when considered remitted. OBJECTIVE: Students at risk for bipolar disorder endorse highly ambitious goals. This study examined expectations for the future among people with actual bipolar disorder, versus people with no history of mood disorder and persons with history of unipolar depression.
METHODS: One hundred and three students were assessed for Axis I disorders and completed a measure of expected life outcomes.
RESULTS: History of mania, but not history of depression, related to higher expectations of achieving popular fame and wealth.

BACKGROUND: Trichotillomania (TTM) remains understudied in children. Adult research suggests that TTM is accompanied by significant depression, anxiety, and functional impairment. The purpose of this study is to examine the occurrence of depression and anxiety in a relatively large sample of youth with TTM and the extent to which these symptoms mediate the relationship between TTM severity and associated impairment.

An abbreviated Spider Phobia Questionnaire (SPQ) was developed using methods based in item response theory.
