Sleep in post-traumatic stress disorder and panic: convergence and divergence.

Disturbed sleep is a common clinical problem in anxiety disorders, particularly in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and panic disorder (PD). Several studies have attempted to validate the subjective sleep complaints of these disorders using laboratory polysomnography. These attempts, typically focusing on PTSD or PD independently, have demonstrated inconsistent results. To our knowledge, no such studies have attempted to directly compare and contrast sleep disturbances in PTSD and PD together. Our review of the studies of subjective sleep disturbances, sleep architecture, an

Investigating subjective and objective sleep in functional neurological disorder using self-reports and actigraphy - A cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Functional neurological disorder (FND) is a frequent and disabling neuropsychiatric condition. Patients frequently report comorbid sleep disturbances; however, the role and aetiology of sleep impairments in FND remain incompletely understood. METHODS: We assessed sleep quality in a cohort of mixed FND patients and healthy controls (HC). All participants completed the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI; subjective), whereas patients additionally underwent a 2-week actigraphy (objective). First, we compared subjective sleep quality between groups and assessed the role of comorbid

Effect of head and facial massage combined with aromatherapy on sleep quality and delirium in patients with acute myocardial infarction: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Delirium and sleep disturbances are common among patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) admitted to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CCU), often leading to increased mortality and prolonged hospitalization. Non-pharmacological interventions such as massage and aromatherapy may offer supportive benefits in managing these complications. METHODS: This parallel randomized clinical trial included 198 CCU patients diagnosed with AMI. Participants were randomly allocated into three groups: Group A received head and facial massage with lavender essential oil; Group B received mas

Sleep quality in patients with mycosis fungoides and its relationship with dermatology-specific quality of life.

Sleep disturbances are increasingly recognized as a significant aspect of the disease burden in dermatologic disorders; however, data about sleep quality in patients with mycosis fungoides (MF) remain limited. In this context, the quality of sleep and its clinical correlates were evaluated in a cohort of MF patients using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the Dermatology Life Quality Index. Poor sleep quality was observed in more than half of the patients, underscoring the clinical relevance of this issue in MF. No significant associations were found between sleep quality and sociodemogra

Impact of different anesthesia subspecialties on anxiety levels and sleep quality among anesthesiologists: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Anesthesiologists face high risks of occupational burnout, anxiety, and sleep disorders. Significant subspecialization within the field suggests different specialties may constitute distinct stressors, but whether this leads to systematic variations in mental health outcomes remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the association between different anesthesia subspecialties and the levels of anxiety, depression, and sleep quality among anesthesiologists. METHODS: A multi-center cross-sectional study was conducted. Eighty-five anesthesiologists from four tertiar

The Relationship Between Sleep, Fatigue and Quality of Life in Young Adults With Autoimmune Addison's Disease.

OBJECTIVE: Standard glucocorticoid (GC) replacement therapy in autoimmune Addison's disease (AAD) fails to replicate natural cortisol rhythms. Despite adherence, patients report persistent fatigue, reduced vitality, and impaired wellbeing, ultimately lowering health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Cortisol is essential for sleep regulation, yet the impact of cortisol imbalance on sleep and HRQoL in AAD remains poorly understood. This study investigates self-reported sleep impairments and their associations with fatigue and HRQoL in young adults with AAD. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Sixty-four pati
