During the experiment conducted upon 85 guinea-pigs it has been found that the injection of naloxone at the dose of 0.5 g/kg half an hour before the reproduction of anaphylactic shock (AS) by the use of horse serum increases the number of cases of the retarded development of pathological reaction and survival of the animals. A very serious case of anaphylactoid reaction to bupivacaine occurred during epidural analgesia. A rise in complement 3 activation products and a decrease in immunoglobulin E were observed, while bupivacaine toxicity was ruled out by normal serum concentration. Severe maternal hypotension, and a sudden decrease in the fetal heart rate were detected clinically. By a cesarean section, a baby girl was delivered, who at the age of 1 year appears normal.

Allergic-type reactions during hemodialysis are sometimes due to sensitization to ethylene oxide. To examine the possibility that additional antigens might be a basis for unexplained reactions, antibodies to formaldehyde and phthalate-related antigens and to dialyzer extracts were measured. Unselected sera from 113 chronic hemodialysis patients (CHP) and 200 control subjects were tested for IgG antibodies to formaldehyde-treated human serum albumin (HSA). A population of 6,764 individuals who had received a penicillin prescription at an outpatient clinic was tested with MDM (minor determinant mixture) and PG (penicillin G), whether or not a previous history of allergy to penicillin had been reported. A 2 1/2 year old boy had a sudden, severe, and unexpected anaphylactoid reaction after an otherwise uncomplicated repair of a partial atrioventricular septal defect. The reaction, comprising haemorrhagic pulmonary oedema and peripheral circulatory collapse, followed neutralisation of heparin by protamine. Measurements of serum complement (C3 and C4) concentrations suggested that a pronounced consumption of complement occurred during the adverse response.

Reduced levels of complement fractions C3 and C4 and total hemolytic complement (CH50) are usually attributed to classical complement pathway activation. Acquired or congenital pulmonary arteriovenous fistulas are rare. The pulmonary arteriovenous fistula may be either acquired or congenital in origin, the latter being much more frequent than the former. The congenital origin usually combines with other vascular anomaly. A boy with inoperable mediastinal echinococcosis is reported, who developed anaphylactic reactions during chemotherapy with mebendazole.
