Genital organs, ureter, urinary bladder, and blood were collected from a 12 year old watusi cow which never exhibited estrous behaviour. Post-mortem findings and hormone assays, however, indicated the incidence of recent estrous cycles. The animal showed a chronic panmetritis, retained fetal membranes or fetal residues, an infected mucometra with cystic glandular hyperplasia, and a leiomyoma. Tubular genitalia, ureter, and urinary bladder exhibited subacute inflammation.

The histopathology of the uterine and salpingeal epithelium of five cows affected with genital tuberculosis was studied. Both optical and scanning electron microscopy were used and the results were compared. Various forms and degrees of cellular lesions are described, including hypertrophy, flattening, detachment, nuclear protrusions and alterations of the cilia. In the different sites considered (uterus: intercaruncular and caruncular areas; salpinges: isthmus and ampulla) various characteristic lesions were observed.

An antenatal detection of unilateral torsion of uterine adnexa was made by means of ultrasonography on the 32nd gestational week. This presented as an asymptomatic large "pseudo-cystic" mass, and was resected electively at the age of two weeks. A "fluid-fluid" level on ultrasonography is highly suggestive of this rare entity. This is the fourth case in the English literature to have been detected antenatally, and among the first dozen to be reported in the neonatal period.

Sixty-seven women with extensive pelvic adhesions, including hydrosalpinx, underwent a laparoscopic surgical procedure over the past eight years. Only cases in which ovum pickup was greatly impaired by adhesions were included. Cases of extensive endometriosis or acute adhesions were excluded. Recent innovations in technique were used, including aquadissection, electrodissection, scissors dissection and laparoscopic suturing. Four hundred three attempted hysteroscopic tubal sterilizations were performed. Tubal spasm was encountered in 37 cases (9.2%) and prevented bilateral placement of tubal plugs in 16 of those cases. There was some evidence that glucagon was associated with a higher rate of remission and that women using barrier birth control methods experienced a lower incidence of tubal spasm. A number of other factors were found to be unrelated to tubal spasm and its remission.

A prospective study of 80 patients referred for hysterosalpingography (HSG). In 74 patients HSG was performed as part of an infertility investigation. Samples taken from the cervix were cultured for N. gonorrhoeae, Chl. trachomatis and M. hominis. Serum specimens were examined for antibodies against Chl. trachomatis and M. hominis. The structural-functional analysis of the uterine tube epithelium is proposed as an additional indirect index of the ovarian hormonal activity. Several standard types of the tubal epithelium are distinguished (proliferative, secretory, gravidal, non-functional, proliferative-hyperplastic) which are characteristic of certain level of various sex hormones in the woman organism. The spontaneous rupture of the primigravid uterus before the onset of labour is an obstetric rarity. Invariably there is a history of antecedent scarring. A case of uterine rupture, an unusual finding at Caesarean section, is reported. The only antecedent history was partial salpingectomy and oophorectomy. The probable mechanism of rupture is discussed. Admission at 32 weeks and Caesarean section at 36 weeks is recommended in the next pregnancy.

The authors have attempted to evaluate the therapeutic usefulness of post-operative adhesiolysis in 23 cases of early 8th. day laparoscopies. 13 cases showed a favorable appearance and no action was taken - of these 8 resulted in pregnancies. In 2 cases adhesions formed in the following months. In 10 cases adhesiolysis was performed; in 5 of these adhesions reformed, in 3 there were ectopic pregnancies, in 2 intra-uterine pregnancies where there were unilateral adhesions. The Authors conclude that the intervention had no therapeutic value in this series, but cannot deny its prognostic value.

All the examinations led to the results of a male sex. The rudimentary uterus situated in the left scrotal cavity was extirpated and the both testicles were placed into the corresponding scrotal cavities. A case of unilateral tubo-ovarian abscess due to Actinomyces in the presence of an intrauterine device is presented. The gross and microscopic features are described. As the diagnosis of this potentially serious infection is usually made by the histologic demonstration of sparsely distributed sulfur granules, the pathologist should approach every case of IUD-associated pelvic inflammation with a high index of suspicion.

The association of unilateral tubo-ovarian abscess and the presence or use of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD) appears to be a definite clinical entity. Four cases of unilateral tubo-ovarian abscess in patients using the IUD are presented. Three patients had a Dalkon Shield IUD and one had a Lippes Loop. Two patients had unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy while the other 2 had total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. The differential diagnosis, possible etiology, route and mode of infection, and management are discussed.
