The analysis of surgical treatment of 75 patients of the senior age group with fractures of thoraco-lumbar spine against the background of an osteopenia is provided in article. Tick-borne encephalitis is a viral disease affecting the central nervous system. It is endemic in Switzerland with 200-250 notified cases annually. Active immunization is effective for persons in all age groups. Vaccine failure is rare, in particular after a completed vaccination course. Here, we describe the case of 67-year-old man with a fatal outcome despite vaccination. The diagnosis was confirmed by extensive postmortem analyses. The diagnostic challenges of vaccine failure in tick-borne encephalitis and the dynamics of the immune response in vaccination breakthrough are discussed.

The reaction of intramolecular stannylene phosphorus Lewis pairs with heavier dichlorides of group 14 (GeCl2, SnCl2, PbCl2) is reported. Phosphine base stabilized stannyl germylenes/stannylenes were formed by the oxidative addition of an E-Cl bond to the stannylene tin atom (E = Ge, Sn). In solution, a dynamic equilibrium between two diastereomeric configurations was observed. With PbCl2 a redox reaction towards elemental lead and the dichlorinated tin(iv) compound was found. All compounds were characterized by X-ray diffraction, NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis.

Nerve sheath inflammation without significant axonal degeneration can result in c fibres (both axons in continuity and the nervi nervorum) becoming spontaneously active and mechanically sensitive. This may help explain the painful responses when examining neural dynamics in patients with non specific arm pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and arm pain following whiplash injury, when longitudinal nerve excursion (measured using ultrasound imaging), appears to be within normal ranges. These findings have implications for the clinical examination and treatment of these patients groups.

Three patients with adult-acquired hemiplegia are described with the unusual dynamic deformity of spasticity of the triceps muscle. Auditory cortical responses evoked by stimulation with frequency glides of a continuous tone have been recorded from 44 subjects with intracranial tumours affecting auditory function. Response latencies obtained when stimulating the ear on the side of the tumour were different from the non-tumour ear as well as from groups with cochlear impairment and normal hearing. Tumours caused a reduction of a specific sensitivity to the frequency glide stimulation, affecting further processing of the dynamic change in tone frequency. The test appears to have diagnostic potential.

OBJECTIVES: Intracranial pressure in traumatic brain injury is dynamic and influenced by factors like injury patterns, treatments, and genetics. Existing studies use time invariant summary intracranial pressure measures thus potentially losing critical information about temporal trends.
