Maternal omega-6 to omega-3 conversion reduces osteoarthritis pain-related behaviors in adult female offspring.

BACKGROUND: A parental high-fat diet (HFD) enriched in inflammatory omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-6 PUFAs) increases the severity of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) in adult offspring, a risk factor which lacks therapeutic interventions. This study investigated whether rebalancing the maternal omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acid (n-6/n-3 FA) ratio during pregnancy and lactation could mitigate PTOA severity in adult offspring. METHODS: Wildtype (WT) and fat-1 female mice, which endogenously convert n-6 to n-3 PUFAs, were fed either a control or n-6-enriched HFD and mated to control-fed

A Case-Control Analysis of Bone Stress Injury on Advancement and Health Care Utilization in US Air Force Basic Military Trainees.

INTRODUCTION: Every year, approximately 35,000 recruits enter the United States Air Force Basic Military Training (BMT). Musculoskeletal problems are particularly vexing for BMT because a broad array of differentials render definitive diagnosis burdensome and while most sufferers will fully recover, healing often requires protracted training delays resulting in increased unrecoverable training costs to the program. The purpose of this study is to conduct a case-control study of basic military trainees entering service from 2012 to 2015 to assess detectable differences in demographics, retentio

CT guided cryoablation for locally recurrent or metastatic bone and soft tissue tumor: initial experience.

BACKGROUND: Historically, local control of recurrent sarcomas has been limited to radiotherapy when surgical re-resection is not feasible. For metastatic carcinomas to the bone or soft tissue, radiotherapy and some interventional radiology treatment along with other systemic therapies have been widely advocated due to the possibility of disseminated disease. These techniques are effective in alleviating pain and achieving local control for some tumor types, but it has not been effective for prolonged local control of most tumors. Recently, cryoablation has been reported to have satisfactory re

Efficacy of anterioposterior weight-shift training with visual biofeedback for step length asymmetry and functional mobility in chronic stroke: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Step length asymmetry is a specific and persistent characteristic of hemiparetic gait in patients with chronic stroke, typically resulting from impaired weight bearing and reduced propulsive force on the paretic side. This asymmetry leads to reduced walking efficiency and an increased risk of musculoskeletal complications. This study investigated the efficacy of an anterioposterior weight-shift training (AP training) system utilizing visual biofeedback to improve gait asymmetry in patients with chronic stroke. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial enrolled 34 patients with chr

An intelligent wearable insole system for machine learning-based detection of high-risk postures in static symmetrical load-lifting tasks.

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) remain a major occupational health concern worldwide, with manual material handling, particularly lifting, being a primary contributor to low-back pain. Conventional ergonomic interventions often rely on observational assessments and lack continuous, objective, and automated monitoring in real-time conditions. This study presents an intelligent wearable insole system that integrates plantar-pressure and an inertial measurement unit with embedded machine-learning algorithms for the automated classification of low-risk/high-risk lifting postures in

Adult disease burden in patients with mucopolysaccharidosis type I H (Hurler syndrome): A comprehensive literature review with patient case analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Mucopolysaccharidosis type I H (MPS IH; Hurler syndrome) is a rare autosomal recessive disease that causes deficiency of alpha-L-iduronidase - an enzyme responsible for catabolizing glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). While historically considered a pediatric disease with an overall median life expectancy of 8.7 years, advances in MPS IH treatment options have extended patient lifespans into adulthood; however, long-term progression of MPS IH currently remains minimally described. This study aims to provide a comprehensive literature review about the adult disease burden of MPS IH as vali

Myofascial pain with referral: Role of nociceptive drive and central pain mechanisms.

Referred pain frequently occurs in musculoskeletal pain disorders. The differential role of peripheral (nociceptive drive) and central (pain processing) domains associated with referred pain was investigated. Utilizing TMJ IMPACT Project data, 293 participants were classified into 2 groups: referred pain (n=118) and local pain (n=175). Each domain of nociceptive drive and central processing was comprised of 7 observed variables as predictors based on face validity. Latent variables for each domain were constructed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Univariate associations of predictors
