Implementation and evaluation of a nurse-led clinic for men referred with suspected prostate cancer.

BACKGROUND: Cancer diagnostic delays remain a challenge. Advanced nurse-led clinics represent an innovative approach to improving pathway efficiency while delivering person-centred care. Aims: To evaluate barriers and facilitators in establishing a nurse-led clinic for urgent suspected prostate cancer referrals and assess the impact on patient experience and services. METHODS: A hybrid effectiveness-implementation design and naturalistic case-study design. Data included routine data (pre-implementation, n=150; implementation, n=293), patient surveys (n=162), patient interviews (n=10), staff i

[HOPAIR, a feasibility study focused on hope and recovery in suicide prevention].

Suicide is a major public health issue. Efforts to prevent it must begin as soon as hospitalization. Brief mental health interventions and contacts are known to be effective. The HOPAIR study proposes an innovative combination of peer support intervention and the Hope Box tool, followed by a reminder postcard sent to suicidal individuals hospitalized in psychiatric crisis units at two research centers in Lyon. Focusing on the resources of those affected, hope, and recovery, this study highlights the work of peer support workers and advanced practice nurses while offering encouraging prospects

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination recommendations in older adults: An update.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), first linked to severe respiratory illnesses (bronchiolitis or pneumonia) in infants and children, is now recognized as a serious problem in older adults. Since the 1970s, RSV outbreaks have been observed in various long-term care facilities housing older adults. Various studies highlighted that RSV is a major driver of illness in older adult community-dwelling populations. Recently, in Canada, three vaccines, Arexvy, Abrysvo, and mResvia, have been authorized for use in older adults to prevent RSV-related lower respiratory tract disease. The National Advisor

Global Neuroscience Nurse Training Begins With a Baseline Assessment of Neuroscience Nursing Knowledge.

BACKGROUND: Before implementing an educational intervention, there is a need to establish baseline knowledge levels such that the outcome of said intervention can be fairly evaluated. Before developing a structured nursing educational intervention, we aimed to assess nursing knowledge, nursing confidence regarding that knowledge, and the accuracy of the knowledge. METHODS: We distributed a 50-item validated neurological assessment test (NAT) questionnaire to 70 nurses working at a teaching hospital in Kenya. There were no personal identifiers collected and the NAT was made available in both el

Clinical Outcomes of a Nurse-Delivered, Technology-Enabled HIV Outpatient Model.

We evaluated Klick, a nurse-led, digitally enabled model of HIV outpatient care, launched in 2020. Klick's smartphone app offers online booking, remote nurse-led consultations, and results. An audit of Klick nurse-led consultations was conducted against BHIVA monitoring guidelines, and nurses were interviewed about their experience. Of 40 Klick patients audited, 4 of 5 BHIVA standards were met: 100% had documented co-medications, smoking history, blood pressure, and viral load data, and 89% received a cardiovascular risk calculation (Targets 97%-90%-90%-90%-90%). Compared to national BHIVA aud

Intraoperative Irrigation: Fluid Administration and Management Amidst Conflicting Evidence.

Surgeons use irrigation during open cavity procedures to improve their view of the patient's anatomy and to reduce the patient's risk of infection. However, there are no standard guidelines that recommend a specific type of fluid, additive, or volume of irrigation to use during open procedures. Intraoperative hypothermia can occur if irrigation fluids have not been warmed or have cooled before use, causing adverse patient outcomes. In addition, failing to manage (eg, measure and document) fluid volume accurately may affect clinical decision making and cause other complications. Perioperative p

Pediatric penile surgery by a nurse practitioner in the operating room.

INTRODUCTION: With the growing shortage of pediatric urological surgeons, it was our aim to streamline our system to get patients with less complex penile procedures performed in a timely manner. To do this, an advanced practice provider (APP) was trained to perform minor penile procedures in children in the operating room(OR). OBJECTIVES: The goal of our study was to show that with proper training an APP could safely perform a circumcision in the OR. STUDY DESIGN: After approval of the study center's credentialing committee, a NP was trained to perform revisions and initial circumcisions in
