INTRODUCTION: Correction of micro-orbitism, resulting from clinical or congenital anophthalmia, has traditionally been performed by multiple segmentation of the orbital rim, orbital expanders and orbital conformers. Idiopathic orbital inflammation (IOI) is a well-recognised pathological process usually confined to the orbit. It is an orbital mass lesion characterised by infiltration of soft tissues by inflammatory cells and fibrous tissue. It is essentially a diagnosis of exclusion. We report a case with orbital cellulitis and irreversible visual loss caused by asymptomatic acute sinusitis in a patient without symptoms or history of sinusitis. The prompt use of intravenous antibiotics in combination with early surgical drainage may prevent irreversible visual loss in the affected eye, and threatened visual loss in the fellow eye can be reduced.

A 17-year-old boy presented with a left upper lid swelling, headaches and diplopia. An orbital computerized tomography (CT) scan showed a mass in the left lacrimal fossa eroding bone and extending into the temporalis fossa and intracranially. A 57-year-old woman with a six-year history of Graves' Disease with ophthalmopathy developed unilateral periorbital swelling. CT scan suggested a lacrimal mass. Biopsy revealed MALT lymphoma. Evaluation for other sites of lymphoma revealed no other evidence of disease. She was treated with radiation therapy only with complete disappearance of disease. This is the first known case of MALT lymphoma arising in Graves' ophthalmopathy.

PURPOSE: This study examined the relation between effective orbital volume increment and proptosis induced by an inflatable orbital implant in a human cadaver orbit.
METHODS: A 25-ml inflatable latex balloon was inserted between the periorbita and orbital floor in 15 human cadavers. Hertel measurements were taken for each milliliter over a total 7-ml volume increment. Five trials per orbit for 15 cadavers resulted in 525 data points.

RESULTS: Cases of unilateral arachnoid cyst are described in two men, both over the age of 60. The patients were evaluated with computed tomography (CT) scans and in each, an arachnoid cyst in the middle cranial fossa caused bone remodeling with exophthalmos in one.
