This series of experiments assesses the effect of exposure to low-frequency pulsing electromagnetic fields (PEMFs) in 340 rats with acute experimental myocardial infarcts. The left anterior descending artery was ligated with suture thread, and the rats underwent total body exposure to PEMFs until they were killed. A collection (164) of isolates of Bordetella bronchiseptica made predominantly from cats (132) but also from dogs (15), pigs (12) and other species was examined by pulsed field gel electrophoresis following macrorestriction digestion with XbaI. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis was used to analyze the DNA of 67 Neisseria meningitidis A strains from five African outbreaks occurring between 1988 and 1996. Endonuclease Bg/II was used to cut chromosomal DNA, generating 19 analyzable fragments. This technique allowed comparison of clonal relationships between outbreak strains and revealed that the same pulsotype was responsible for the outbreaks. This pulsotype is closely related to strain B54, subgroup III reference strain, Finland, 1975, showing only two fragment differences.

The flashlamp-pumped pulsed dye laser (FPDL) was the first laser system specifically developed for the treatment of cutaneous vascular lesions such as port-wine stains (PWS), telangiectases and haemangiomas. A total of 86 patients with malignant tumours of the hypopharynx and larynx were examined with CT and MRI. The most frequent malignant tumours of the larynx namely, the glottic carcinomas, were better detected with CT than with MRI. Pyoderma gangrenosum is a chronic ulceronecrotic inflammatory cutaneous disorder that can be associated with diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
