Posttraumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) is a disorder which emerges after the patient has experienced one or more psychotraumatic events, which equally include neurobiological deregulation and psychological dysfunction. OBJECTIVE: To study changes in arterial-venous PCO2 pressures (Da-vPCO2) and in pH (Da-vpH) in an experimental dog model of acute bleeding. To emphasize the utility of monitoring these variables in situations of acute bleeding. ANIMALS AND METHOD: Eighteen dogs were anesthesized and monitored while being subjected to gradual bleeding. Gasometric and hemodynamic variables were recorded at the following moments: baseline, stage I (15% of volemic loss), stage Ib (20%), stage II (25%), stage IIb (30%) and stage III (35%).

To identify key enzymes that participate in acylglycerol metabolism, 12-[(5-iodo-4-azidosalicyl)amino]dodecanoyl-coenzyme A (ASACoA) was employed as a photoaffinity label for those enzymes that use fatty acyl CoA as a co-substrate. ASACoA inhibited diacylglycerol acyltransferase activity in liver microsomes and was incorporated into triacylglycerol in a microsome dependent reaction. The effects on serum lipid levels of reducing stress were examined in 20 patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. An anxiolytic, fludiazepam, was administered to the patients for 12 weeks and their lipid profiles and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory scores at the beginning and end of treatment were compared. The high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level increased significantly after the administration of anxiolytic, but other aspects of the lipid profile were unchanged. The authors present the results of a controlled observation of withdrawal reactions accompanying cessation of desmethyldiazepam (clorazepate) therapy. The two subjects studied had had generalized anxiety disorder for several years; both were free from manifestations of other forms of psychopathology or addictive behavior patterns. Both patients maintained stable patterns of clorazepate use at modest doses for extended periods of time.
