Radiofrequency energy exposure from the Trilliant smart meter.

This paper reviews radiofrequency (RF) field levels produced by electric utility meters equipped with RF transceivers (so-called Smart Meters), focusing on meters from one manufacturer (Trilliant, Redwood City, CA, USA, and Granby, QC, Canada). The RF transmission levels are summarized based on publicly available data submitted to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission supplemented by limited independent measurements. As with other Smart Meters, this meter incorporates a low powered radiofrequency transceiver used for a neighborhood mesh network, in the present case using ZigBee-compliant

Ion trap array mass analyzer: structure and performance.

An ion trap array (ITA) mass analyzer--a novel ion trap mass analyzer with multiple ion trapping and analyzing channels--was designed and constructed. Its property and performance were investigated and reported in this paper. The ITA was built with several planar electrodes including two parallel printed circuit board (PCB) plates. Each PCB plate was fabricated to several identical rectangular electric strips based on normal PCB fabrication technology and was placed symmetrically to those on the opposite plate. There is no electrode between any two adjacent strips. Every strip was supplied wit

A blinded, prospective, randomized controlled trial of topical negative pressure wound closure in India.

Wound closure using topical negative pressure (TNP) has been reported to be effective, but equipment costs can be prohibitive in resource-challenged countries. Because nonhealing wounds are exceedingly common in developing countries such as India, the ability to optimize wound care with limited resources is very important. To investigate the feasibility and efficacy of providing TNP in an Indian medical referral center, a randomized controlled trial comparing a locally constructed TNP device (treatment) to wet-to-dry gauze dressings (control) was conducted. Eligible study participants (N = 48)

Multi-slice CT angiography in the evaluation of patients with acute cerebrovascular disease--a promising new diagnostic tool.

Single-slice computed tomographic angiography (CTA) is an established imaging method for the cerebrovascular system (CVS), but it suffers from technical limitations with respect to the coherent high resolution visualization of longer vascular segments, such as the extra- and intracranial CVS. The recently introduced multi-slice (MS) technology has been attributed with a superior imaging quality for angiographic procedures due to increased scan speed and improved spatial resolution. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the suitability of multi-slice CTA (MS-CTA) for the assessment of the a

The advanced breast biopsy instrumentation (ABBI) experience at a community hospital.

The Advanced Breast Biopsy Instrumentation (ABBI; U.S. Surgical Corp., Norwalk, CT) system is the newest technology available for the evaluation and diagnosis of nonpalpable breast lesions. It requires the breast imaging specialist, often a radiologist, to localize the suspicious lesion to x, y, and z coordinates in a digital mammogram unit. The coordinates are then used by the surgeon to operate and direct the ABBI biopsy device around the lesion to obtain an excisional biopsy. Mammographic confirmation of the specimen is then immediately obtained. First introduced in the United States in Apr

Supporting Patients With Breast Cancer and Providers Through Treatment and Survivorship: Multimethod Implementation Study of the MyJourney Platform.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women, bringing complex demands for timely decision-making, coordination of multidisciplinary care, and efficient communication between patients and providers. The increasing reliance on fragmented and noninteroperable health information systems exacerbates workflow and documentation burdens, leading to inefficiencies and gaps in continuity of care. While nurse navigation programs partially bridge these gaps, most digital platforms remain poorly integrated into provider workflows, requiring manual tracking, which results in dup

Collaborative Multi-Sensor Fusion for Intelligent Flow Regulation and State Monitoring in Digital Plunger Pumps.

To address the technical challenge where traditional high-pressure, large-flow emulsion pump stations cannot adapt to the drastic flow rate changes in hydraulic supports due to the fixed displacement of their quantitative pumps-leading to frequent system unloading, severe impacts, and damage-this study proposes an intelligent flow control method based on the digital flow distribution principle for actively perceiving and matching support demands. Building on this method, a compact, electro-hydraulically separated prototype with stepless flow regulation was developed. The system integrates high
