The reach-rigor paradox in health communication: a comparative analysis of congenital heart disease content quality and engagement on TikTok and Bilibili.

BACKGROUND: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common birth defect and a major contributor to childhood morbidity and mortality. Short-video platforms-particularly TikTok and Bilibili-have become prominent sources of public health information. However, the quality and reliability of CHD-related educational content on these platforms remain insufficiently characterized. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis in October 2025 by retrieving the top 100 CHD-related videos from TikTok and Bilibili (n = 200). Two independent reviewers assessed each video using the Global Quality Sc

A systematic review of burn-related mortality and morbidity along with preventive strategies existing in the Arabian Peninsula over the last 5 years.

UNLABELLED: This systematic review looks at burn injuries in the Gulf region over the past five years, focusing on how often they occur, their survival and complication rates, and current prevention efforts. To gather the data, two reviewers independently searched five major databases and checked article reference lists to make sure no relevant studies were missed. The team then used the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) to evaluate the quality and potential bias of the gathered research. The following sections present these regional findings and discuss the need for better burn management systems

Mass spectrometry-based proteomics and metabolomics in multiple myeloma: a systematic review of prognostic biomarkers and minimal residual disease monitoring.

INTRODUCTION: Current multiple myeloma (MM) risk stratification, anchored on the Revised International Staging System (R-ISS), provides a static snapshot of disease but fails to capture its dynamic biological evolution, functional tumor-microenvironment crosstalk, and real-time treatment response. Mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomic and metabolomic profiling has emerged as a high-sensitivity tool for both novel biomarker discovery and minimal residual disease (MRD) monitoring. This systematic review evaluates the independent prognostic value and clinical utility of quantitative MS-based pro

Lifestyle intervention and cognitive outcomes in Down syndrome: a horizon 21 European Down syndrome consortium scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Life expectancy for individuals with Down syndrome (DS) has significantly increased, primarily due to medical advances. While DS is considered a genetically determined form of Alzheimer’s disease (DS-AD), with neuropathological markers evident by age 40, the onset of clinical dementia varies. Modifiable risk factors are thought to contribute meaningfully to dementia risk in the general population. Advances in intervention studies in the general population suggest cognitive decline can be reduced through multimodal lifestyle interventions, however no large-scale multimodal studies h

Addiction across substance use, gambling, and screen: a scoping review of coping strategies adopted by concerned significant others.

BACKGROUND: A loved one's addiction to substance use (alcohol or drugs), gambling, or screen use (e.g. gaming, social media) has significant impact on the quality of life of concerned significant others (CSOs), affecting various aspects of their daily lives. As a result, CSOs implement a range of coping strategies to deal with their loved one's addiction and to try to preserve their personal and family well-being. Several studies have focused on the strategies used by CSOs, but none have provided a comprehensive overview of CSO's experiences of coping across substance use, gambling, or screen-

A systematic review and meta-analysis of knowledge, attitudes, and practices toward anthrax prevention and control in Ethiopia: Implication for a one health policy.

BACKGROUND: Anthrax is one of the tropical diseases that are often overlooked... Anthrax's burden extends beyond its effects on health; it also has an economic cost. Implementing One Health policies requires knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) about anthrax prevention and control. However, there is no nationally aggregated evidence in Ethiopia. Therefore, this review was done to generate evidence and offer suggestions for incorporating KAP findings into One Health strategy to prevent and control anthrax in Ethiopia. METHODS: The protocol was registered in a PROSPERO with a reference CRD42

Designing, using and evaluating the effects of nursing clinical skills training software on the clinical skill level and satisfaction of nursing students.

INTRODUCTION: The integration of new educational tools and technologies has the potential to enhance nursing students' motivation and engagement. However, existing training often fails to ensure retention and timely application of clinical skills in real, high-stress hospital settings, leading to gaps between what is taught and what is performed in practice. This study proposes the design and use of educational software targeted at nursing clinical skills, aligned with the current level of clinical proficiency of nursing interns, with the aim of bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge a

Adverse Drug Reactions in an Intensive Care Unit of a Secondary Care Lithuanian Hospital: A Prospective Observational Study.

Background and Objectives: Previous studies have shown that a major part of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are preventable, and they contribute to increased morbidity, mortality, and costs. To our knowledge, no study investigating preventable ADRs has been carried out in Lithuania. Therefore, the aim of this study was to characterize ADRs in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a secondary care Lithuanian hospital as well as to identify drug classes and organ systems most commonly implicated in preventable and nonpreventable ADRs. Materials and Methods: This observational prospective study was cond

Improving the diagnostic accuracy of referrals for papilloedema (DIPP) study: protocol for a mixed-methods study.

INTRODUCTION: Papilloedema can be the first sign of life-threatening disease, for example, brain tumours. Due to the potential seriousness of this clinical sign, the detection of papilloedema would normally prompt urgent hospital referral for further investigation. The problem is that many benign structural variations of optic nerve anatomy can be mistaken for papilloedema, so-called pseudopapilloedema. The consequence is that many people are referred to hospital because they are incorrectly identified to have papilloedema when they don't. As a result, hospital referrals of people with suspect

Neuropathic Pain Experience and Self-Management Strategies of Spinal Cord Injury Patients: A Meta-Synthesis of Qualitative Studies.

BACKGROUND: Neuropathic pain (NP), characterized by variable symptoms, treatment resistance, and substantial physical/psychological burdens, impacts 40%-60% of spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. Due to the unpredictable onset and pervasive nature of NP, timely intervention cannot be made, so self-management strategies become necessary. However, limitations are present in these strategies. Therefore, we conducted a meta-synthesis of qualitative studies to explore how the complexity of NP (physical, emotional, and social challenges) interferes with self-management effectiveness, thereby guiding

SALVOVAR: a pragmatic randomized phase III trial comparing the SALVage weekly dose-dense regimen to the standard 3-weekly regimen in patients with poor prognostic OVARian cancers.

BACKGROUND: Patients with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) receiving neoadjuvant platinum-based chemotherapy (NACT) who remain ineligible for complete interval cytoreductive surgery (ICS) due to poor chemosensitivity (CA-125 KELIM™ score <1.0) have a poor prognosis (~20% 5-year survival). A weekly dose-dense carboplatin-paclitaxel regimen may improve outcomes in this high-risk subgroup. OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate the superiority of a salvage weekly dose-dense carboplatin-paclitaxel regimen over continuation of the standard 3-weekly regimen in poor-prognosis EOC patients after 3-4 cycles of sta
