Mice with subcutaneous RIF-1 tumors were anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital (PB) or ketamine plus acepromazine (KA) before acquisition of in vivo 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra from tumors. This investigation sought evidence of impaired calcium regulation occurring early during acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity and signs of a close temporal relationship between the onset of arylation damage and impaired ion regulation. Spectrophotometric measurement of the absorption characteristics of the lens capsule was carried out on 20 cases of so-called complicated or senile cataract operated through intracapsular cataract extraction (ICCE). The lens capsule almost completely transmitted visible radiation (between 400 and 750 nm) and near-ultraviolet (UV) radiation (between 300 and 400 nm). In the UV portion below 300 nm, the lens capsule showed one absorption peak at 280 nm and rapid increase of absorbance below 240 nm. Rats received continuous chronic trifluoperazine hydrochloride (4.4-4.9 mg/kg/day) treatment for 15 months via their drinking water. Drug treatment did not alter the content of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the cerebral cortex when compared to age-matched control animals. Similarly, there was no change in basal levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) when measured by a fluorimetric or spectrophotometric technique. Incubation of cortical homogenates in air, or with FeSO4 plus ascorbic acid or H2O2 plus FeSO4, stimulated MDA production to the same extent in tissue from drug-treated and control animals.

Hydrogenase II of Clostridium pasteurianum is a monomeric protein of Mr = 53,000 containing 8 iron and 8 acid-labile sulfide atoms/mol.
