[Use of propofol (diprivan) for induction of anesthesia in neurosurgical patients. I. Pressor reaction to laryngoscopy and intubation of the trachea].

Pressor reaction to laryngoscopy and intubation of the trachea was studied in 32 patients with neurosurgical diseases of the brain (supratentorial tumors and arterial aneurysms) under conditions of induction anesthesia with propofol (diprivan) in the mean dose of 2.85 mg/kg. Diprivan alone did not block the development of pronounced pressor reaction to intubation. Combination of diprivan in the same dose with dipidolor (0.4 mg/kg) ensured complete blocking of the pressor reaction in neurosurgical patients. Combination of diprivan and fentanyl (2.85 mg/kg) blocked the development of a pressor r

Cardiovascular and catecholamine responses to acute haemorrhage in anaesthetized potassium-adapted rats.

The experiments were designed to determine whether potassium-loaded rats have a deficient recovery of blood pressure after a rapid arterial haemorrhage. Potassium loading was achieved by providing a 0.75% KCl solution as drinking fluid for 14 days, while control rats had either distilled water or tapwater. MAP, HR, Hct, and plasma electrolytes were determined before and after 1 and 2% body weight haemorrhage in anaesthetized Sprague-Dawley rats. Potassium-loaded rats had significantly reduced blood pressure recovery within 20 min after haemorrhage. HR was significantly reduced within 5 min onl

Morphologic changes in lungs of anesthetized sheep following intravenous infusion of recombinant tumor necrosis factor alpha.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF alpha) is a monokine released in response to endotoxin and has been suggested as a primary mediator of endotoxic shock. We have recently demonstrated that infusion of recombinant human tumor necrosis factor alpha (rTNF alpha) into sheep elicits a physiologic response in the lung that closely resembles endotoxemia. The present study examines the morphologic changes that accompany these alterations in pulmonary physiology. Five anesthetized, open-chest sheep received 0.01 mg/kg of protein (2.24 x 10(7) U rTNF alpha/mg) intravenously over 30 min. Lung biopsy tissu

Effect of intravenously administered dexmedetomidine on pain after laparoscopic tubal ligation.

Ninety-six women undergoing laparoscopic tubal ligation were randomized to receive intravenously either 0.2 or 0.4 microgram/kg of dexmedetomidine, 60 micrograms/kg of oxycodone, or 250 micrograms/kg of diclofenac for postoperative pain in a double-blind study design. The study drugs were administered in the recovery room for moderate or severe pain and were repeated until pain subsided or disappeared. In the group receiving diclofenac, 83% of the patients required analgesic supplementation with morphine. This contrasted (P less than 0.01) with 33% of the patients receiving either oxycodone or

Impact of Fentanyl and Remifentanil on Immune Response in Breast Cancer Patients Post-surgery.

BACKGROUND/AIM: The perioperative period may influence immune function in cancer patients, with anesthetic agents potentially contributing to immunosuppression. This study evaluated the differential impact of fentanyl and remifentanil on immune cell populations in breast cancer (BCa) patients undergoing surgery. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty patients with histologically confirmed BCa who were treated with modified radical mastectomy or breast-conserving surgery followed by radiotherapy were included in the study. Anesthesia was administered using either fentanyl (n=12) or remifentanil (n=18).

Comparative effectiveness of diverse strategies for the prevention or treatment of epidural-related maternal fever: a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

OBJECTIVE: Epidural-related maternal fever during full-term delivery has been associated with adverse consequences for both parturients and neonates. There is currently insufficient clear evidence to support any individual interventions aimed at preventing epidural-associated maternal fever. The objective of this study was to evaluate and rank the efficacy of various preventive or therapeutic interventions for the epidural-related maternal fever in laboring women. DATA SOURCES: We systematically searched MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, and CENTRAL from their inception through May 28, 2024.
