Gastric heterotopia is more frequently in small intestine, gall bladder, biliary tract, Meckel's diverticulum, colon and rectum, but it can be found in other locations. It is especially rare in oral cavity. We only find one case that concurs with cleft palate. We present the case of a neonate with gastric heterotopia and cleft palate in addition to other congenital malformations not related at first. We make a brief revision of literature, showing the pathogenesis of heterotopia and its possible association with the cleft palate.

Gastric heterotopia of the small intestine is a rare occurrence outside of Meckel's diverticulum and intestinal duplication. The vast majority of cases of gastric heterotopia occur as polypoid or tumorous lesions in the duodenum. These lesions have been associated with clinical symptoms including diarrhea, obstruction, dyspepsia, ulceration, and gastrointestinal bleeding. We present a case of gastric heterotopia that is unique because the lesions occurred as multiple, carpet-like, nonpolypoid areas throughout a large portion of the small intestine. A review of the literature is included.

Reconstructive-restorative operations in 164 cases of colostomy are analysed. The colostomy was formed for injury to the large intestine in 45.7%, oncoproctological diseases in 35%, complications of diverticulum in 10%, and for other diseases (volvulus of the sigmoid colon, unspecific ulcerous colitis, etc.) in 9.3% of patients. The terms of the operations were chosen individually: from 2.5-4 months after injury to 10-14 months after an oncological operation. The extraperitoneal method was applied in 93 and the intraperitoneal method in 71 operations. Mortality was 2.9%.

A 60-year-old female patient presented to our clinic with complaints of abdominal distention. The rapid accumulation of fluid was originally thought to be ascites, based on ultrasonographic examination. The cause, however, was ultimately determined to be a borderline malignant giant ovarian cyst. Several processes can mimick ascites: bladder distention or diverticulum, hydronephrosis, pancreatic pseudocysts, and large uterine or ovarian tumors. For this reason, clinicians must consider processes other than ascites in the differential diagnosis of large abdominal fluid accumulation.

We have described a case of pyoderma gangrenosum due to diverticular disease. The patient was an elderly woman with a 3-month history of cutaneous disease without associated gastrointestinal complaints. There was no history of inflammatory bowel disease, malignancy, or seropositive arthritis. Evaluation revealed a retroperitoneal abscess due to a ruptured diverticulum. Surgical resection of the affected colon led to rapid and complete resolution of all symptoms. Pathologic examination of resected tissue showed diverticulitis without evidence of chronic inflammatory bowel disease.

Too often a urethral diverticulum is a long-standing and unrecognized problem. Suprapubic sonography has been proposed for assessment of this pathological condition. We report on endovaginal sonography as a new improved imaging modality for the diagnosis of urethral diverticula. In positive cases additional morphological information can be obtained from positive pressure urethrography or from diverticulography via fine needle puncture under digital guidance or under sonographic control. Direct puncture of the lesion allows the injection of contrast material to facilitate the diverticulectomy.

A new procedure with the use of a free skin patch graft for the surgical treatment of strictures located in the mid anterior urethra is described. To avoid the formation of a urethral diverticulum, the skin graft is sutured dorsally rather than ventrally and subsequently is fixed on the tunica albuginea of the corpora, which support the patch. We describe 4 different procedures according to the extent of the stenosis and the degree of involvement of the spongiosum tissue by the inflammatory process. The preliminary results obtained in a small series of 6 patients are presented.

In surgical operations in the inguinal area in infants and children many unusual pathologic states were observed that were at first thought to be simple hernia. Among the conditions observed, in addition to complicated hernias and other anomalies of the processus vaginalis, were male pseudo-hermaphroditism, ectopic spleen, ectopic adrenal with neuroblastoma, diverticulum of the bladder, inguinal adenitis and suppurative iliac adenitis. In light of the sometimes surprising contents of the hernia sac, good exposure and careful identification of all anatomic structures is mandatory.
