Nasal non-invasive positive pressure ventilation. A new method of ventilatory support for patients with chronic respiratory failure.

This case report is presented to illustrate the advantages of Nasal Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NNIPPV). It is relatively simple, practical, easy to use, and has been proven to be an efficient means of treatment for patients with chronic respiratory failure (CRF), especially hypercapnic respiratory failure. The availability of NNIPPV has increased in recent years and has made the concept of domiciliary ventilatory support a practical reality. It has resulted in decreased frequency and duration of hospital admission and hence minimised certain demands on the health service. The

Stoma irrigation among patients with a permanent colostoma-a cross-sectional survey of stoma care nurses in Austria and Germany.

BACKGROUND: Colostomy irrigation is a well-established technique used for bowel management in patients with a permanent, left-sided colostomy. When performed routinely every 24-48 hours, it enables stool-free intervals, often allowing the use of only a stoma cap or simple dressing. Scientific evidence has shown significant improvements in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) for patients using this method. AIM: This study aimed to evaluate the current application of colostomy irrigation in Germany and Austria and to identify reasons for its limited use, despite known benefits. A specific fo

Multi-dimensional factors and intervention strategies for nasoenteric tube dysfunction: research progress and future perspectives.

Nasoenteric tube (NET) is indispensable for the delivery of enteral nutrition for hospitalized patients. However, their clinical utility is frequently compromised by dysfunction-related complications, including tube malposition, obstruction and displacement. These issues disrupt nutritional therapy, escalate healthcare costs, and exert adverse impact on patient outcomes. Here, we review the multi-factorial etiology of NET dysfunction, encompassing tube-related factors (material properties, structural design and fixation techniques), treatment protocols (nutritional formulation physicochemical

A Pilot Study of Sleep, Work Practices, Visual Processing Speed, and 5-Year Motor Vehicle Crash Risk Among Truck Drivers.

The purpose of this pilot study was to explore the relationships between sleep, work practices, speed of processing, and 5-year motor vehicle crash risk among a group of older truck drivers. Anthropometric, demographic, and psychological data were recorded, along with health, sleep, and work histories from a sample of 23 truck drivers. Results from this pilot study suggest that physical fatigue may play a role in processing speed. Future studies should be designed with adequate power and include objective measures of sleep and repeated measures over time to determine 5-year MVC rates. Implicat
