We report here a rare case of fatal rapidly progressive necrotizing gastrointestinal mucormycosis due to Mucor circinelloides f. circinelloides in the setting of community-acquired peritonitis, in an immunocompromised adult patient. Diagnosis was established by direct examination of peritoneal fluid showing hyphae consistent with mucormycosis confirmed by the culture.

Scedosporium apiospermum is an opportunistic mold that is an emerging disease in humans and animals. This report describes a case of S. apiospermum infection inciting a mural urinary bladder mass and focal peritonitis in a dog that had a history of multiple traumatic events several years prior. For diagnosis, culture followed by MALDI-ToF, PCR, and sequencing was performed to accurately identify the species. Susceptibility testing was also performed due to the inherent resistance of S. apiospermum to numerous antifungal agents.

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) are serious diagnoses to consider in reproductive-age women presenting with abdominal or pelvic pain. Management can be medical or surgical depending on severity. This case report outlines the unique presentation of TOA in a 15-year-old female presenting with acute abdominal pain with a recent past surgical history of appendectomy. A discussion of the approach to similar presentations and the importance of maintaining a broad differential diagnosis follows.
