INTRODUCTION: Qatar's ongoing healthcare transformation, aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030, underscores the need for a robust nursing and midwifery research agenda to drive systemic improvements. While an earlier Delphi study identified initial research priorities, its stakeholder representation was limited in scope and diversity.
OBJECTIVE: To validate and refine Qatar's national nursing and midwifery research priorities through an expanded expert consensus.
METHODS: This study represents Phase Four of a previously conducted Delphi project. A new panel of 20 experts from public, p

Air-in-line alarms during intravenous administration of antineoplastic drugs can interrupt therapy, increase nursing workload, and affect the continuity and safety of treatment. Although advanced infusion technologies have been introduced to reduce these events, evidence comparing their performance in clinical practice remains limited. This protocol describes a multicenter, prospective, multiphase study, combining a controlled simulation phase with two observational phases, designed to investigate the occurrence and management of air-in-line alarms during antineoplastic drug administration. OBJECTIVES: Pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) nurses spend the most time with patients and families during a critical illness. However, nurses, families, and other clinicians conceptualize suffering differently, leaving some types of suffering when a child is nearing the end-of-life (EOL) unaddressed. PICU nurses are thus well-positioned but underequipped to address suffering during EOL. We aimed to 1) characterize distinctive features that indicate the presence and/or absence of suffering; and 2) identify nursing care responses that help attend to EOL suffering.
METHODS: Using qualitative

Image-guided hepatic biopsies have been performed safely and accurately for a number of years. The advantages of sonographic or CT guidance in avoiding major vital structures, such as large vessels, the gallbladder, or pleura, have been confirmed many times. However, the safety and accuracy of certified nurse practitioners' performing these biopsies have not been described. The authors describe a retrospective review of 418 image-guided hepatic biopsies that demonstrated no significant difference in accuracy or complication rates between biopsies performed by certified nurse practitioners and

Medical marijuana, also known as cannabis, is being sought by patients and survivors to alleviate common symptoms of cancer and its treatments that affect their quality of life. The National Academy of Sciences (2017) reports conclusive or substantial evidence that cannabis is successful in treating chronic cancer pain and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, moderate evidence that cannabinoids are beneficial for sleep disorders that accompany chronic illnesses, and limited evidence supporting use for appetite stimulation and anxiety. However, due to the fact that cannabis is classified a

Resident-to-resident aggression (RRA) in nursing homes is a prevalent and concerning public health problem. A rapid growth in the number of research studies has led to advancements in understanding and awareness of these incidents. However, no state survey deficiency citation (F-Tag) currently exists to capture RRA in a structured way in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) nursing homes F-Tags Coding System. This omission represents a major barrier to State Survey Agencies, CMS, consumers, and care advocacy organizations' efforts to keep vulnerable and frail residents safe and

The RESEARCH TO PRACTICE column is intended to improve the research critique skills of the advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) and to assist with the translation of research into practice. For each column, a topic and a particular research study are selected. The stage is set with a case presentation. The research article is then reviewed and critiqued, and the findings are discussed in relation to the case presented. Our current column discusses factors associated with heat-related hospitalizations and deaths with implications for APRN practice and public health prevention strategies us

AIM: Despite decades of research, we still know surprisingly little about how best to bring about lasting recovery from anorexia nervosa (AN). Furthermore, there is a lack of consensus in the research and treatment communities about what constitutes recovery from AN, or whether "recovery" is even an appropriate term to use in this context. The aim of this study was to analyse the concept of AN recovery from the perspectives of various stakeholders.
DESIGN: Concept analysis.
METHOD: Walker and Avant's eight-stage concept analysis method.
RESULTS: There continues to be a lack of consensus aro

BACKGROUND: Nursing home residents are typically older adults with high levels of chronic illness and impairment. As such, they are particularly susceptible to severe complications and mortality from COVID-19. Since all nursing home residents are at increased risk, nursing home care staff need to know what residents would want to happen should they become infected with COVID-19. This study aims to develop and evaluate advance care planning (ACP) COVID-centric online training and information resources for nursing home staff and family members of residents, to improve care at the end of life dur

Learning how to recognise and respond to disclosures of family violence is a core component of nurse education, yet this learning often occurs in classrooms and clinical environments where some students and educators may themselves be survivors. Across nursing programs, pedagogical approaches often emphasise recognising and responding to patients affected by family violence yet give limited attention to the vulnerabilities of students and academic faculty or the potential for re-traumatisation when the topic arises in educational settings. Using a trauma-informed lens, we examine the ethical d

In 2018, the Society of Critical Care Medicine published the Pain Agitation Delirium Immobility and Sleep Disruption guidelines that recommend protocol assessment-based pain and sedation management. Since the publication of these guidelines, multiple studies and meta-analyses have been conducted comparing sedative options in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) setting including dexmedetomidine and propofol. Sedatives are on a continuum when it comes to delirium risk. Propofol, like benzodiazepines, causes changes in sleep patterns by suppressing the rapid eye movement sleep stage not seen with dexme

Active learning and professional citizenship are widely discussed in nursing education, yet the conditions under which they converge have not been theoretically specified. In this paper, we advance a structural account of that relation, drawing on deliberative theory, philosophy of education, and nursing scholarship. The relation we describe is one of shared enabling conditions rather than causal production: active learning and professional citizenship converge not because one produces the other, but because each depends on arrangements that require public justification through reasons, engage

The United States is facing a major crisis with the current opioid epidemic. Tens of thousands of individuals are dying each year due to abuse and misuse of heroin and prescription opiate drugs. Nurses play an integral role in these aspects of health care and offer solutions by providing education; preventive measures; treatments, including medication-assisted treatments (MATs); and ongoing recovery options for individuals with opioid use disorders. Nurses provide education, issue prescriptions and dispense medications, and provide overall physical and mental health care to patients struggling

Children in the United States have benefited considerably from advancements in medical and nursing science over the course of the past 200 years. The twentieth century saw dramatic declines in the incidence of childhood diseases; the prevalence of measles, haemophilus influenzae type B, diphtheria, rubella and tetanus are at all time lows (CDC, 2006). Indeed, many pediatric nurses have never seen any of these diseases, something that would certainly have startled their predecessors just a few generations ago. Before the mid- twentieth century, caring for children with communicable diseases rep

Infertility remains a persistent global reproductive health challenge, with causative factors encompassing abnormalities in both the male and female reproductive systems. Typically, female partners seek initial consultations for infertility concerns, often within the context of routine annual well-woman check-ups. Nurses providing preventive care play a crucial role, conducting initial diagnostic assessments, and addressing certain causes of infertility. Patient satisfaction serves as a vital indicator of care quality. Identifying factors contributing to patient satisfaction with nursing servi
