A straightforward strategy for synthesis of highly functionalized trifluoromethyl 2H-furans is described. The copper catalyzed method relies on a cascade cyclic reaction between enaminones and N-tosylhydrazones. This method allows the synthesis of 2-amino-3-trifluoromethyl-substituted 2H-furan derivatives carrying a quaternary stereogenic center as single diastereomers. The proposed reaction mechanism involves an amino-cyclopropane intermediate formed in the cyclopropanation of enaminones. In the classical amidation between aromatic ketones and amines, 2.0 equivalents of amines are necessarily required to gain satisfying yields. The specific role of the amine in the direct amidation already puzzled us for a long time. In this work, we disclosed that the amine acts as both reactant and catalyst. Specifically, the determination of reaction intermediates revealed the full mechanism, based on which, the introduction of one equivalent base in the amidation is showcased here that a high yield (∼95 %) can be afforded using only 1.1 equiv. of amine.

Copper(II) acetate has reacted in methanol with quinaldinic acid (quinoline-2-carboxylic acid) to form [Cu(quin)2(CH3OH)]∙CH3OH (1) (quin- = an anionic form of the acid) with quinaldinates bound in a bidentate chelating manner. BACKGROUND: Five workers from a plant manufacturing concrete wall panels and beams were referred to our department because of suspected occupational dermatitis. When patch tested, 3 workers reacted to potassium dichromate. Four workers reacted to ethylenediamine dihydrochloride, without any obvious exposure. Owing to the high proportion of workers with recent-onset skin disease, an investigation of all workers at the plant was initiated.

Multiple applications of isothioureas as fine chemicals (or their precursors) are known, but a general sustainable method for their synthesis was hitherto unavailable. We report a novel general approach towards S-alkyl and S-aryl isothioureas through a copper(I)-catalyzed three-component reaction between amines, isocyanides, and thiosulfonates. The formal synthesis of a superpotent sweetener further illustrates the applicability of our method.

In this paper triethanolamine salt-catalyzed sodium chlorite bleaching system was used to bleach plain weave cotton fabric in one step.
