INTRODUCTION: Air-fluidized therapy (AFT) has long been used in the treatment of severe burns. In patients with extensive burns involving the posterior trunk, we aim to keep affected posterior areas dry and to postpone their treatment, initially applying available split-thickness skin grafts in functionally more important regions. To obtain information about the occurrence and genotype distribution of G. intestinalis and C. parvum in Austrian cattle, faecal samples from diarrhoeic calves younger than 180 days of age originating from 70 farms were examined. After his medical studies in Vienna and Graz, Georg von Hofmann-Wellenhof, born in 1860 in Vienna, became an assistant at the Pathology Institute at the University of Graz. In 1887, he described a bacterium in the pharynx which resembled diphtheria bacillus. We tested 19 sera from Austrian patients with acute hepatitis A. A serum from a 48-year-old female patient yielded HAV-nucleic acid that showed 99.7% homology to the HAV-sequence obtained from samples taken during the current outbreak in several European countries, which is associated with consumption of frozen berries. So far, Austria was considered not to be affected by this hepatitis A outbreak.

A cluster of 34 cases of listeriosis was traced to consumption of quargel cheese, a sour milk specialty, in Austria, Germany and Czech Republic between 2009 and 2010. BACKGROUND: Cystic echinococcosis (CE), caused by Echinococcus granulosus, is a parasitic disease that predominantly involves the liver and the lungs, whereas primary involvement of the musculoskeletal system is rare and diagnostically challenging.
