Focused extracorporeal shock wave therapy following intramedullary screw fixation for Jones fractures in high-level athletes may be associated with earlier bone union and return to sport.

BACKGROUND: Focused extracorporeal shock wave therapy (F-ESWT) is widely used as a bone growth stimulator in the treatment of various bony injuries; however, no previous studies have specifically investigated the efficacy of F-ESWT following intramedullary screw fixation for Jones fractures in athletes. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of F-ESWT in promoting bone healing following intramedullary screw fixation for Jones fractures in high-level athletes. METHODS: This study retrospectively analyzed the treatment outcomes of intramedullary screw fixation using cannulated Herbert-type screws

Clinical and radiological effect of medialized cortical bone trajectory for lumbar pedicle screw fixation in patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial (mPACT).

BACKGROUND: Spinal fusion with pedicle screw fixation represents the gold standard for lumbar degenerative disc disease with instability. Although it is an established technique, it is nevertheless an invasive intervention with high complication rates. Therefore, minimally invasive approaches have been developed, the medialized bilateral screw pedicel fixation (mPACT) being one of them. The study objective is to evaluate prospectively the efficacy and safety of the mPACT technique compared with the traditional trajectory for degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis. METHODS/DESIGN: This is a sin

Titanium mesh bone grafting combined with pedicle screw internal fixation for treatment of Ku[Combining Diaeresis]mmell disease with cord compression: A case report and literature review.

RATIONALE: In 1891, Dr. Hermann Kümmell, a German surgeon, described a clinical entity characterized by the development of progressive painful kyphosis following an asymptomatic period of months or years after a minor spinal trauma, leading to a gradual collapse of the vertebra and dynamic instability, ultimately progressing to kyphosis with prolonged back pain and/or paraparesis. To date, the main pathologic eliciting event remains unclear, and no standard treatment or single effective treatment are available for Kümmell disease. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 74-year-old woman presented with severe ba

Glenoid reconstruction with screw-type implant versus iliac crest bone grafting for anterior shoulder instability: study protocol for a prospective, multicentre, non-inferiority, randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Anterior shoulder instability is a common condition, frequently seen in young and active individuals. For patients with critical glenoid bone defects (≥15%), Bankart repair has limited effectiveness and bony augmentation surgery is often required. However, traditional bone grafts carry the risk of graft resorption, while 3D-printed personalised implants aimed at anatomical reconstruction face limitations in accessibility, cost and production time. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: In this multicentre, randomised controlled trial, anterior shoulder instability patients with critical glenoid

Clinical Outcomes of Isobar TTL System with Isthmic Bone Grafting and Pedicle Screw-Vertebral Plate Hook with Direct Repair of Defect for Lumbar Spondylolysis: A Matched-Pair Case Control Study.

OBJECTIVE: Although direct isthmic repair, such as PSVPH, did not affect the mobility of the fixed segment and adjacent segment, it has a relatively low rate of isthmic fusion compared with conventional fusion. The Isobar TTL dynamic internal fixation system has been widely used in clinical practice and has achieved satisfactory clinical results. However, the use of the Isobar TTL system in combination with direct isthmic repair for lumbar spondylolysis has rarely been reported. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical and radiologic outcomes between patients who underwent Isobar TTL

A positioning method for the transiliac-transsacral screw bone channel based on a manual tracing of a transparent overlay of preoperative computed tomography images in patients with pelvic fracture and a unilateral trans-sacroiliac corridor.

Unstable posterior pelvic ring injuries are carrying a significant mortality risk, and the gold standard treatment for this condition is percutaneous sacroiliac screw fixation. However, traditional methods for transiliac-transsacral screw placement involve numerous difficulties in the positioning of the screw channels. Although computer-assisted navigation can improve accuracy, its complexity and high-cost limit its widespread adoption. This study aimed to develop and implement a positioning method for transiliac-transsacral screw placement via computed tomography (CT) imaging. The proposed te
