Unilateral segmental uterine horn aplasia was found in 2 mixed-breed bitches. The 1st bitch was presented with clinical signs of acute abdominal pain, and pyometra was suspected. Pyometra was confirmed surgically with rupture of a blind-ending cranial portion of the anomalous right uterine horn, which had resulted in peritonitis. The 2nd bitch was presented for routine ovariohysterectomy. The right uterine horn was affected by segmental aplasia, with mucometra of the cranial portion of the affected horn. Histopathology demonstrated both uteri to have diffuse cystic endometrial hyperplasia. It

The consequences of experimental infection with Trypanosoma congolense and later superinfection with T brucei were compared among four breeds of goats: Toggenburg, Nubian, Alpine and Saanen. No major differences were found with regard to packed cell volume, bodyweight or parasitaemia. When these four breeds were considered for introduction into areas having African trypanosomiasis, none appeared to have a comparative advantage with regard to innate resistance to trypanosomes.

BACKGROUND: Inadequate nutrition of the dams, even if recognized as a possible cause of infertility, it is usually underestimated during the common diagnostical procedures (i.e., clinical examination, vaginal cytology, ultrasound, blood and urine analysis). Although the diet may meet adult maintenance requirements, several nutrients can be suboptimal during the pre-gestation period and may influence reproductive performance.
