Intraocular Tumors: Angiographic Patterns.

Intraocular tumors are primarily diagnosed clinically. However, ancillary tests such as fluorescein angiogram provides excellent visualization of retinal tumors while indocyanine green angiography reveals intrinsic vascular patterns of choroidal tumors. In this review, we contrast angiographic patterns of a variety of retinal, choroidal, and iris tumors.

CHOROIDAL MELANOMA IN A PATIENT WITH WAARDENBURG SYNDROME.

PURPOSE: To report a case of choroidal malignant melanoma in a patient with Waardenburg syndrome and bilateral choroidal pigmentary abnormalities. METHODS: Clinical examination and multimodal imaging of the case. RESULTS: A 45-year-old woman presented with asymptomatic flat choroidal pigmentation abnormalities in both eyes. A choroidal lesion was identified in the inferotemporal periphery of the left eye arising from an area of hyperpigmentation; ultrasonography findings were consistent with a choroidal melanoma. The patient endorsed a personal and family history of premature graying of hair

[Ring melanoma revealed by spontaneous hyphema].

INTRODUCTION: Ring melanoma is a rare form of uveal melanoma characterized by the circumferential involvement of the ciliary body. Unilateral chronic and refractory glaucoma is a classic circumstance of diagnosis. OBSERVATION: We report a case of ring melanoma revealed by acute intraocular hypertonia secondary to spontaneous hyphema. Iris and iridocorneal angle were diffusely invaded by the tumor. The fundus was masked but B-scan ultrasonography revealed a voluminous ciliochoroidal tumor. The patient had been enucleated. Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of ring melanoma. The t

[Unusual cause of tetraparesis in an adult].

A 61 year old male developed progressive spastic tetraparesis and paresis of the lower cranial nerves (IX, X and XI) after a minor spine-head trauma. Magnetic resonance depicted a partially cystic IV ventricular mass, extending to C1/C2 level. Neuropathology was compatible with choroids plexus papilloma (CCP). This case shows a rare clinical presentation of an infrequent adult tumour.

Segmental myoclonus as the sole manifestation of a choroid plexus papilloma in the posterior fossa. Case report.

The authors describe the case of a 22-year-old woman with involuntary contractions of the sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles that resulted in turning movements of the head. The jerks displayed the clinical and neurophysiological characteristics of segmental myoclonus (SM) restricted to muscles supplied bilaterally by the first four cervical segments. Magnetic resonance imaging disclosed a tumor in the midline above the cisterna magna that was later histologically proven to be a choroid plexus papilloma. The patient's involuntary movements did not extend to other muscle groups or, in par

Chondromatosis of the choroid plexus: case report.

We report the case of a patient with successful total removal of a previously undescribed intracranial tumor arising in the right lateral ventricle (probably of metaplastic origin). The histopathological examination revealed benign chondromatosis of the choroid plexus. The pathogenesis of this lesion, with special reference to synovial chondromatosis and to the differential diagnosis of solid neoplastic chondromas, their clinical features, and computed tomographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings, is presented and discussed.

Pre-operative embolisation of choroid plexus tumours in children. Part II. Observations on the effects on CSF production.

OBJECTIVE: Choroid plexus tumours are one of the few causes of hydrocephalus secondary to increased CSF production. Operative treatment aided by pre-op embolisation is being used in our institution as a primary option of treatment. Our aim was firstly to quantify the effects of embolisation on CSF production and secondly to assess whether the use of pre-operative embolisation would lead to reduction of CSF production thus reducing the need for CSF diversion procedures in the perioperative and long term. METHODS: From 1996 till 2009, 30 patients (mean age, 2.25 years) underwent surgical treatm

Combined cellular and soluble mediator analysis for improved diagnosis of vitreoretinal lymphoma.

PURPOSE: Primary vitreoretinal lymphoma [(P)VRL]) is a rare malignancy of the eye localized in the retina, vitreous or choroid. Here, we aim to determine the value of the combination of innovative diagnostic methods for accurate differentiation between (P)VRL and non-(P)VRL in patients with suspect uveitis or vitritis. METHODS: Multicolour flow cytometric immunophenotyping of cells in the vitreous samples was performed using the EuroFlow small sample tube. Additionally, cytokines/chemokines and growth factors were measured in the vitreous specimens using a multiplex immunoassay. Data were eva

Prognostic biopsy of choroidal melanoma: an optimised surgical and laboratory approach.

BACKGROUND: Accurate survival prognostication for patients with uveal melanoma (UM) enables effective patient counselling and permits personalised systemic surveillance for the early detection of metastases and, in high-risk patients, enrolment in any trials of systemic adjuvant therapy. The aim of this work is to determine the success of prognostic UM tumour biopsy using an improved surgical approach and optimised sample handling workflow. METHODS: Patients with UM treated by primary radiotherapy between 2011 and 2013 and who underwent a prognostic biopsy with cytology, multiplex ligation-de

Transvitreal retinochoroidal biopsy.

Biopsies from retina and/or choroid were performed through a transvitreal approach in 14 patients during the 2-year period 1984-1986. A 20-gauge fine needle was used. The transvitreal approach was chosen because exact location of the biopsy could be documented by video recording and/or by photography. The needle was guided either by a stereotactic micromanipulator or by hand. Immediately after biopsy laser burns were placed around the biopsy hole. Light microscopical and, in selected cases, transmission electron microscopical examination of the material obtained showed malignant melanoma, chor

Choroidal metastasis as the first manifestation of renal pelvis carcinoma: A case report.

RATIONALE: Choroidal metastasis is an uncommon event, especially as the first sign of renal pelvis carcinoma (RPC), a rare subtype of upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). While the majority of choroidal metastases originate from primary cancers like breast or lung, those arising from urologic cancers are extremely rare. This article describes a case of RPC where the first clinical sign was a choroidal mass. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 51-year-old female presented with a 2-week history of decreased vision in her left eye (OS). She reported no prior history of malignancy or significant family histo

Multispectral Fundus Photography of Choroidal Nevi With Trans-Palpebral Illumination.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the spectral characteristics of choroidal nevi and assess the feasibility of quantifying the basal diameter of choroidal nevi using multispectral fundus images captured with trans-palpebral illumination. METHODS: The study used a widefield fundus camera with multispectral (625 nm, 780 nm, 850 nm, and 970 nm) trans-palpebral illumination to examine eight subjects diagnosed with choroidal nevi. Geometric features of nevi, including border clarity, overlying drusen, and lesion basal diameter, were characterized. Clinical imagers, including sc
