A rare case of squamous cell carcinoma of bladder occurring in a 36-year-old female with persistent cloacal anomaly who presented with frequency, urgency, dysuria, and recurrent urinary tract infection is reported. Contrast Enhanced Computed Tomography with three dimensional reconstruction showed presence of bladder tumor and persistent cloaca. She underwent pelvic exenteration and wet colostomy. Histopathologic findings revealed locally advanced moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma.

We report a case of a persistent cloaca and pseudoexstrophy associated with congenital pouch colon in a native-born American female child. This unusual anomaly occurs in two clinical settings. It has been reported in India as an isolated anomaly occurring primarily in males. Pouch colon also occurs in female patients with pseudoexstrophy or closed cloacal exstrophy. The typical anatomic features of this anomaly are discussed.

Infants born with imperforate anus have a high incidence of genitourinary anomalies. Vesicoureteral reflux was the most common abnormality in this series. Since these patients often have bacteriuria, this is an important finding. An intravenous pyelogram and voiding cystourethrogram should be part of the evaluation of each neonate with imperforate anus. Persistent cloaca, a frequent finding in the female patients, may require special diagnostic attention.

OEIS complex is a rare entity comprising a combination of omphalocele, exstrophy of the cloaca, imperforate anus, and spinal defects. We present a case that demonstrates the imaging features of OEIS complex, which also has the rare diagnosis of a terminal myelocystocele, across multiple imaging modalities both prenatally and postnatally. A prenatal diagnosis of OEIS complex allowed for appropriate planned multidisciplinary management of this patient.

Dipygus is a complete caudal duplication deformity in its severest form. The structures derived from the embryonic cloaca and notochords are duplicated to various extent. We report a male baby who presented to us with complete somatic and visceral duplication below the umbilical level associated with gastroschisis and imperforated anus. Staged surgical corrections were suggested and three out of the four stages were performed successfully.

A child is reported with a constellation of anomalies which include acetabular dysplasia with bilateral dislocated hips, persistent cloaca, hypoplastic kidney, two umbilical vessels, anal atresia and no obvious external genitalia. These anomalies are strikingly similar to a case reported by Peeden et al ('79) which was referred to as prune perineum. A discussion on possible underlying cause(s) of caudal dysplasia is included.

beta-Lactamase activity and drug sensitivity were measured in 744 strains from 8 species of bacteria isolated at medical institutions in Chikugo District of Fukuoka Prefecture during the period from December 1999 to February 2000. The urachus is the remnant of the cloaca, which in adults attaches the bladder dome to the umbilicus. After birth it obliterates and presents as the midline umbilical ligament. Patent urachal anomalies are usually detected in childhood. In adults they occur very rarely and the presentation and diagnosis may be occasionally challenging. We present and discuss the case of an infected urachal cyst found in a 30-year-old adult.
