Synergistic effects of DHA and choline delivered via co-encapsulated microcapsules in infant formula Rice cereal: Enhanced cognitive function and molecular mechanisms in mice.

The development of the infant brain relies on key nutrients such as choline and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). However, their distinct physicochemical properties pose a challenge, as single supplementation typically results in poor stability and low bioavailability. In this study, DHA and choline were co-encapsulated using microencapsulation technology, resulting in stable microcapsules with an average particle size of approximately 590 nm and a DHA encapsulation efficiency of 85.2 %. Thermogravimetric analysis and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy further confirmed that DHA and choline wer

Far infrared light irradiation enhances Aβ clearance via increased exocytotic microglial ATP and ameliorates cognitive deficit in Alzheimer's disease-like mice.

BACKGROUND: Exposure to sunlight may decrease the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease (AD), and visible and near infrared light have been proposed as a possible therapeutic strategy for AD. Here, we investigated the effects of the visible, near infrared and far infrared (FIR) light on the cognitive ability of AD mice, and found that FIR light also showed potential in the improvement of cognitive dysfunction in AD. However, the related mechanism remains to be elucidated. METHODS: Morris water maze was used to evaluate the cognitive ability of APPswe/PSEN1dE9 double-transgenic AD mice after

Ameliorative Effects of Dendropanax morbifera on Cognitive Impairment Via Enhancing Cholinergic Functions and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor Expression in β-Amyloid-Induced Mice.

Alzheimer's disease accounts for the majority of dementia and shows hallmarks such as sequential cognitive dysfunction and abnormal behavior. Dendropanax morbifera (DM) has traditionally been used to treat a variety of diseases in East Asia. The aim of this study was to assess the therapeutic effects of DM on brain neuron damage and on cognitive deficit in neuronal cell induced by Aβ1-42 in mice. Treatment with DM reduced the levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species and protected against the death of neuronal cells induced by Aβ1-42 peptide. In addition, it was also found that pretreatm

Aerobic exercise facilitates p300 nuclear translocation via ADRB2-AMPKα signaling, leading to enhanced histone acetylation and mitigation of cognitive decline in APP/PS1 mice.

BACKGROUND: Physical activity (PA) is strongly associated with enhanced cognitive resilience and a lower risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in the aging population. However, the molecular mechanisms linking exercise-induced neuroprotection to epigenetic remodeling remain poorly defined. METHODS: A total of 1,511 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2013-2014 cohort were included to assess the association between PA and cognitive performance. Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was further employed to infer the causal relationship between PA and the r

Rice bran extract attenuates cognitive impairment by enhancing pancreatic β-cell insulin secretion in STZ-induced diabetic rats targeting the PPARγ/PDX1 pathway.

Type I diabetes (T1D), also known as juvenile diabetes, is an autoimmune disease that causes gradual destruction of pancreatic cells and leads to intellectual disability, neuropathy, cognitive impairment, and impaired learning ability in children. Despite standard treatment with synthetic human insulin, T1D patients can maintain up to 40% of their insulin-producing islets. PPARγ receptor activation research that aims to restore β-cell biology could help reverse the loss of pancreatic mass that comes with getting older and improve β-cell function. Egyptian RB ethanol extract (RBE), previously r

Dexmedetomidine alleviates hippocampal neuronal loss and cognitive decline in rats undergoing open surgery under sevoflurane anaesthesia by suppressing CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein beta.

Dexmedetomidine (Dex) may exert neuroprotective effects by attenuating inflammatory responses. However, whether Dex specifically improves postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) by inhibiting microglial inflammation through what pathway remains unclear. In this study, the POCD model was constructed by performing open surgery after 3 h of continuous inhalation of 3% sevoflurane to rats, which were intraperitoneally injected with 25 μg/kg Dex .5 h before anaesthesia. The results displayed that Dex intervention decreased rat escape latency, maintained swimming speed and increased the number of

Loss of alpha7 nicotinic receptors enhances beta-amyloid oligomer accumulation, exacerbating early-stage cognitive decline and septohippocampal pathology in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease.

Early Alzheimer's disease (AD) is marked by cholinergic hypofunction, neuronal marker loss, and decreased nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) density from the cortex and hippocampus. alpha7 nAChRs expressed on cholinergic projection neurons and target regions have been implicated in neuroprotection against beta-amyloid (Abeta) toxicity and maintenance of the septohippocampal phenotype. We tested the role that alpha7 nAChRs perform in the etiology of early AD by genetically deleting the alpha7 nAChR subunit from the Tg2576 mouse model for AD and assessing animals for cognitive function and

Usability of the Coach-Supported Dementia Prevention App ENHANCE (Tailored Intervention for Brain Health and Cognitive Enrichment) in Older Adults: 1-Week Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Multidomain dementia-prevention interventions delivered via apps have the potential to reach large populations. However, existing trials have tended to recruit more socioeconomically advantaged participants, raising concerns that the resulting interventions may be less usable for older adults from minority ethnic, lower educational, or lower socioeconomic backgrounds, who are at higher risk of dementia. The Tailored Intervention for Brain Health and Cognitive Enrichment (ENHANCE) app was designed to address this by prioritizing accessibility and engagement across diverse user group

Cognitive enhancing effect of Canagliflozin in aluminum-induced rat model of Alzheimer's-like disease: Cross-talk between Amyloid-Β and BDNF/GSK-3β signaling.

The strong relationship between Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and diabetes mellitus (DM) is described by the term "type 3 diabetes". Canagliflozin (CAN), a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i), is an antidiabetic agent under investigation as a potential new treatment for AD due to its acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory properties. We aimed to examine the effect of CAN on the efficacy of the anti-acetylcholinesterase, rivastigmine (RIV), against aluminum chloride (AlCl3)-induced AD rat model. The efficacy of CAN, RIV, and CAN plus RIV against abnormal behavioral, biochemical, and h

Esketamine/dexmedetomidine-based opioid-free anesthesia modulates perioperative neuro-inflammatory biomarkers and enhances postoperative cognitive recovery in patients undergoing total laparoscopic hysterectomy.

BACKGROUND: Surgery-triggered neuro-inflammation is a recognized driver of early postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD). Whether an opioid-free anesthesia (OFA) regimen combining esketamine and dexmedetomidine can blunt this response during total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) remains uncertain. METHODS: This pre-planned secondary analysis draws on the same prospective TLH cohort whose clinical outcomes were reported previously (total N.=114). Women received esketamine/dexmedetomidine-based OFA (N.=59) or conventional opioid-based anesthesia (OBA; N.=55). Serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), neur

Selenium-rich yeast improve HFD-induced abnormal lipid metabolism in ApoE-/- mice: inhibit oxidative stress, reorganise gut microbiota, and enhance cognitive ability.

Selenium-rich yeast (SeY) is a dietary supplement known to confer multiple health benefits, but its effects on HFD-fed ApoE-/- mice were previously unclear. In this study, it was shown that the intervention of SeY could decrease the body weight (7.69%), as well as the levels of both TC and TG for livers (43.36 and 14.50%) and serum (25.34 and 28.67%). Conversely, the HDL-C levels were increased high to 190%, as well as the antioxidant capacity, reflected in the increased levels of the CAT, SOD, and GSH-Px in both the liver (16.93, 22.06, and 17.59%) and the serum (40.67, 113.76, and 19.83%). Preventing violence and enhancing mental health among clients of an invitro fertilization clinic in Jordan: results of a pre/post pilot test of the use of cognitive behavioral therapy.

INTRODUCTION: Infertility increases women's risk of intimate partner violence (IPV). Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is commonly used to treat mental health problems among fertility treatment seeking patients. CBT has not been tested for its potential to reduce IPV in this population. We pilot test the use of CBT to prevent IPV and improve patients' mental health in a fertility clinic in Jordan. METHODS: Of 38 eligible fertility-treatment seeking couples, 16 consented and underwent up to 11 CBT sessions (average = 9) over 3 months. Interviews at baseline and 16 weeks post intervention (end
