Clinical performance of low-shrinkage giomer compared to nanohybrid resin composite in proximal restorations after one year: a randomized clinical trial.

OBJECTIVES: The present study assesses the clinical performance and occlusal wear of low-shrinkage giomer and nanohybrid composite in proximal restorations. METHODS: Fifty participants with proximal caries in posterior teeth (n = 25) were recruited. Teeth were restored with either conventional nano-hybrid composite (Filtek Z250XT, 3M ESPE, USA) or low-shrinkage giomer (Beautifil II LS, Shofu Inc, Japan). Clinical performance was assessed using revised FDI criteria at baseline, 6 and 12 months. Wear was assessed after 12 months by using 3D inspection and metrology software (Geomagic Control X;

A novel antibacterial dental resin composite material with quaternary ammonium salt modified mesoporous silica nanoparticles - an in vitro and in vivo animal study.

Secondary caries remains a leading cause of failure in resin composite restorations. To address the compromised mechanical properties and potential biosafety concerns associated with conventional quaternary ammonium salt (QAS) monomers, we developed quaternary ammonium-grafted mesoporous silica nanoparticles (QA-MSN) as antibacterial fillers for dental resin composites. The resulting QA-MSN-modified resin composites (QM-Resins) demonstrated potent and concentration-dependent antibacterial and antibiofilm activity against Streptococcus mutans. Specifically, the composite containing 10 wt% QA-MS

Effect of Caps Warmer and VisCalor Dispenser preheating on the color stability and surface roughness of resin composites after coffee immersion: an in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: Prolonged exposure to coffee can lead to pronounced color changes and increased surface roughness in resin composites (RCs), effects that may be worsened by certain preheating methods. Although preheating is used to facilitate handling and enhance polymerization, evidence regarding its long-term impact on color stability and surface properties remains limited. This study investigates how different preheating approaches affect the esthetic performance and surface roughness of RCs, providing insights to guide clinical practice. METHODS: Four RCs (GrandioSO, Admira Fusion, Admira Fus

Effect of short fiber-reinforced resin-based composite on fracture resistance of extensive direct restorations: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Existing evidence suggests that conventional and bulk-fill resin composites (RCs) do not fully restore the physiological fracture resistance of teeth with extensive MOD cavities, leaving posterior restorations susceptible to bulk fracture, particularly in structurally compromised or endodontically treated teeth. Whether short fiber-reinforced resin-based composites (SFRCs) can address these limitations and improve fracture resistance remains unclear. PURPOSE: The purpose of this systematic review and network meta-analysis was to evaluate the fracture resistance of extens

Survival Rates of Amalgam and Composite Resin Restorations from Big Data Real-Life Databases in the Era of Restricted Dental Mercury Use.

Tooth decay, also known as caries, is a significant medical problem that harms teeth. Treatment is based on the removal of the carious material and then filling the cavity left in the tooth, most commonly with amalgam or composite resin. The consequences of filling failure include repeating the filling or performing another treatment such as a root canal or extraction. Dental amalgam contains mercury, and there is a global effort to reduce its use. However, no consensus has been reached regarding whether amalgam or composite resin materials are more durable, and which is the best restorative m
