PURPOSE: Injectable collagenase Clostridium histolyticum has been an effective and well-tolerated nonsurgical treatment option for the management of Dupuytren contracture of the hand. The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy of collagenase injection and adverse event rate in patients who had undergone previous collagenase treatment.
METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed on 332 patients treated with collagenase injection for Dupuytren contracture by three fellowship-trained hand surgeons at a single institution from 2009 to 2019. Fifty-nine joints in 45 patients un…

Dupuytren's contracture is a condition in which fibromatosis of the palmar and digital fascia can lead to painful contractures of the hand. Common conservative treatments are of limited efficacy, while invasive options have risk of adverse effects. A 57-year-old female presented with chronic, bilateral hand pain secondary to Dupuytren's contractures. Traditional conservative treatments did not provide relief. She received a series of three botulinum toxin A injections into the palmar fascia of both hands, resulting in four months of improved hand function and pain relief. This case presents a …

BACKGROUND: Capsular contracture around breast implants is a severe and unpredictable complication experienced by up to 50 percent of patients after breast augmentation and reconstruction, and represents a major cause leading to reoperation. Several lines of evidence point to the involvement of subclinical infections and of bacterial biofilm formation.
METHODS: To reduce the incidence of capsular contracture following mammaplasty, the authors studied the correlation between contamination by exogenous and endogenous bacterial flora and the capacity to develop bacterial biofilm in mammary impla…

BACKGROUND: Elbow contracture is a sequelae of elbow trauma in pediatric patients. Arthroscopic contracture release has been shown to provide equivalent results to open contracture release with less associated morbidity and complications in the adult population. However, open contracture release is still commonly utilized in pediatric patients. The goal of this study is to determine the clinical results and safety profile of arthroscopic elbow contracture release in the pediatric population.
METHODS: A retrospective review of all patients 18 years of age and younger who underwent arthroscopic…

The authors describe the case of a 60-year-old Caucasian man with psoriasis who subsequently developed psoriatic arthritis, gout and Dupuytren's contracture. This is the first report documenting the simultaneous occurrence of psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, gout and Dupuytren's contracture in a single patient. The etiopathology underlying the concurrent presence of these diseases is discussed.

INTRODUCTION: The present study aimed to study the efficacy of preoperative splints in treatment of upper limb contractures and to evaluate the response of contracture to splints depending on the etiology and the joint involved.
METHODS: Ninety joints of 42 patients were studied. Patients age, gender, etiology, duration of contracture, contracture site and joint and type of contracture was noted. The range of motion of the involved joint was recorded. Serial static splints made of thermoplastic material were applied after customizing them for each patient. The range of motion and percentage m…
