Cryoablation (CA) is an image-guided, minimally invasive technique that is gaining traction in the treatment of both benign and malignant soft tissue and bone tumors. This narrative review presents the current evidence supporting its clinical applications in both curative and palliative settings. In malignant tumors-including soft tissue sarcomas and bone metastases-cryoablation provides effective local control, particularly in cases of recurrence, inoperability, or metastatic disease, and enables chemotherapy-free intervals, contributing to improved quality of life. One major challenge associated with lung cancer organoids (LCOs) is their predominant derivation from surgical specimens of patients with early-stage lung cancer. A new cryoprobe was investigated in rabbits for experimental coagulation of the ciliary body. In a one-step procedure, the cyclodestructive effect was achieved by cooling the cryoprobe down to -100 degrees C without significant lens damage. The histological investigation showed extensive necrosis of the ciliary epithelium 2 h and 2 days after the freezing damage. After 2 weeks and 2 months, fibrous atrophy of the entire segment of the ciliary body could be observed.

Benign skin lesions such as solar and seborrhoeic keratoses, viral warts, and skin tags can be treated successfully by cutaneous cryotherapy. Complications are infrequent if the correct technique is used and local anaesthetic usually is unnecessary. Hypertrophic scars and keloids continue to plague the head and neck surgeon as an unpredictable consequence of trauma or incision. The myriad suggested methods of revising such lesions indicate that no one method is foolproof.
