Randomized Clinical Trial to Evaluate MTA Indirect Pulp Capping in Deep Caries Lesions After 24-Months.

OBJECTIVE: This clinical study aimed to assess the efficacies of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] in the treatment of deep carious lesions by the direct complete caries removal technique. METHODS AND MATERIALS: A total of 100 permanent molar/premolar teeth were capped with either Ca(OH)2 (n=49) or MTA (n=51) and restored with composite resin in 73 patients. Periapical radiographs were acquired prior to the treatment as well as at six, 12, and 24 months posttreatment. Two calibrated examiners performed the clinical and radiographic assessment of the periapical p

An animal study on the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma as a direct pulp capping agent.

Direct pulp capping (DPC) is a conservative approach for preserving tooth vitality without requiring more invasive procedures by enhancing pulp healing and mineralized tissue barrier formation. We investigated the effectiveness of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) vs. Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) as a DPC agent. Forty-two teeth from three mongrel dogs were divided into two equal groups. After three months, the animals were sacrificed to evaluate teeth radiographically using cone-beam computerized tomography, histopathologically, and real-time PCR for dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP), matrix extr

Capping the inflamed pulp under different clinical conditions.

BACKGROUND: A great deal of controversy exists regarding the reliability of capping the inflamed pulp. In particular, the use of calcium hydroxide as a capping agent has come into question. In this study, hard tissue barrier formation after inflamed pulps were capped directly or after partial pulpotomy was compared with calcium hydroxide or bonded resin and with no additional seal or an IRM surface seal. Seventy teeth in five dogs were used. Ten untreated teeth were used as negative controls. In 60 teeth, pulpal inflammation was induced by preparing a cavity close to the pulp and sealing a cot

A clinical and microbiological comparative study of deep carious lesion treatment in deciduous and young permanent molars.

The aim of this study was to compare one-visit indirect pulp treatment (IPT), two-visit IPT, and direct complete excavation (DCE) of deciduous and young permanent molars with deep carious lesions from clinical and microbiological points of view. One hundred thirty-five teeth (83 deciduous molars and 52 young permanent molars) were included in the study. The teeth were randomly selected and treated either with one-visit IPT, two-visit IPT, or DCE. For two-visit IPT, the final excavation was performed after a period of 3 months. The color, consistency, and humidity of the dentin at the cavity fl

SOS Teeth: First Priority Teeth with Advanced Caries and Its Associations with Metabolic Syndrome among a National Representative Sample of Young and Middle-Aged Adults.

"SOS teeth" are defined as the first priority teeth for treatment, that have distinct cavitation reaching the pulp chamber or only root fragments are present. These are teeth with severe morbidity, that may require pulp capping, root canal treatment, or extraction, and therefore should be treated first. The study aims to explore whether or not a metabolic syndrome (MetS) is associated with SOS teeth. To that end, we performed across-sectional records-based study of a nationally representative sample of 132,529 military personnel aged 18-50 years, who attended the military dental clinics for on

Efficacy of vital pulp therapy for carious pulp injury in permanent teeth: a study protocol for an open-label randomized controlled noninferiority trial.

BACKGROUND: Vital pulp therapy (VPT) has recently been reported as an effective approach for preventing and treating carious pulp injury in permanent teeth. Compared with root canal treatment (RCT), which involves complete removal of the pulp tissue, VPT effectively maintains pulp vitality and retains the physiological functions of the pulp. In the research pool, large-scale randomized controlled trials evaluating the treatment outcome of VPT using calcium silicate cements and RCT in cariously exposed permanent teeth are lacking. Here, we present a monocentric clinical protocol to compare the
