The relationship of obsessive-compulsive disorder to putative spectrum disorders: results from an Indian study.

The relationship between obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and putative obsessive-compulsive (OC) spectrum disorders is unclear. This stud … ntrols. However, the prevalence of sexual compulsions, pathological gambling, eating disorders, and depersonalization disorder was not greater in the OCD subjects compared to controls. The findings of this comorbidity study suggest that tic disorders, hypochondriasis, BDD, and trichotillomania are perhaps part of the OC spectrum disorders. There is a need to evalua …

Psychiatric side effects of indomethacin in parturients.

PURPOSE: To examine the central nervous system side effects of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indomethacin in a case-serie … he symptoms were often severe and included dizziness, anxiety, fear, agitation, affective lability, depersonalization, paranoia, and hallucinations. There was no past psychiatric history documented in any of the cases. CONCLUSION: This study identifies a possible ADR to indomethacin occurring in postpartum patients. Hypochondriasis and illness phobia in panic-agoraphobic patients.

In a sample of 131 patients with panic disorder, we explored both the presence of DSM-III-R criteria for hypochondriasis and the occurrence … panic disorder reported higher levels of anticipatory anxiety in nonagoraphobic situations and more depersonalization and derealization during panic attacks, and they met our definition of phobic-anxious temperament more frequently than the rest of the sample. This would suggest that illness phobia before the onset of panic disorder may be viewed either as a separa …

Agoraphobics and social phobics: differences in background factors, syndrome profiles and therapeutic response.

Seventy-three agoraphobic and 31 social phobic women, all rated unsuitable for insight-oriented psychotherapy, were compared regarding famil … of equal severity in the two syndromes, but the agoraphobics had higher ratings on free anxiety and depersonalization. 6) Social phobics responded better to prolonged exposure in vivo, while agoraphobics responded better to supportive therapy of dynamic type, or to a simple basal therapy. Social phobics more often wanted the therapists to give advice and guidance.

Psychometric Properties of the Dissociative Subtype of PTSD Scale: Replication and Extension in a Clinical Sample of Trauma-Exposed Veterans.

The addition of the dissociative subtype of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to the DSM-5 has spurred investigation of its genetic, neur … he normal-range trait of absorption, and demonstrated the greater contribution of derealization and depersonalization symptoms relative to other dissociative symptomatology. In this study, we replicated and extended these findings by administering self-report and interview versions of the DSPS, and assessing personality and PTSD in a sample of 209 trauma-exposed ve …

Exploring client and clinician experiences of cognitive behavioural therapy for depersonalisation-derealisation disorder (CBT-f-DDD).

BACKGROUND: Depersonalisation-derealisation disorder (DDD) is an under-recognised condition, involving a sense of detachment from one's internal processes and environment. Cognitive behavioural therapy for DDD (CBT-f-DDD) has shown promising quantitative outcomes in previous research. However, there is a lack of research examining the inner workings of CBT-f-DDD and how the treatment is experienced. This qualitative study explored the experiences and perspectives of clients who received CBT-f-DDD, and the clinicians who delivered this, to better understand acceptability, feasibility of applyin

Attributions, appraisals and attention for symptoms in depersonalisation disorder.

A cognitive-behavioural model of depersonalisation disorder (DPD) suggests that catastrophic attributions and appraisals, and increased attention to symptoms, play important roles in the development and maintenance of the disorder. Empirical testing of this model was investigated in three groups: 25 patients with DPD, 21 patients with anxiety (obsessive-compulsive or panic disorder), and 22 psychiatrically healthy participants. Task 1 examined attributions for ambiguous symptoms. Task 2 used a questionnaire to compare the groups on the content, frequency, and conviction in appraisals when part

A withdrawal syndrome after abrupt discontinuation of alprazolam.

A patient who received therapeutic doses of alprazolam for 8 weeks experienced a withdrawal syndrome beginning 18 hours after its abrupt discontinuation. Short-acting and minimally sedating benzodiazepines may have increased potential for withdrawal reactions.

Unmet needs in functional neurological disorder related to digital healthcare.

Functional neurological disorder (FND) is a common yet historically neglected condition that presents major unmet needs across diagnosis, tr … rapies, biofeedback and virtual or augmented reality interventions. Finally, I discuss the risks of depersonalization, privacy breaches, therapeutic substitution, digital dependence and digital exclusion. In addition, positive therapist effects-variability in outcomes driven by the clinician rather than the intervention-remain difficult to replicate digitally. The …

Ketamine's acute effects on negative brain states are mediated through distinct altered states of consciousness in humans.

Participants experiencing relatively higher depersonalization induced by 0.5 mg/kg of ketamine showed relief from negative brain states (reduced task-evoked right anterior insula activity, 0.39 SD). In contrast, participants experiencing dissociative amnesia showed an exacerbation of insula activity (0.32 SD). …

The Dissociative Symptoms Scale (DSS): Psychometric properties of scores on a German version in clinical samples.

Dissociation is a widespread phenomenon with significant mental health implications. The 20-item Dissociative Symptoms Scale (Carlson et al., 2018) was developed to measure moderately severe levels of dissociation across a broad range of clinical populations. The factor structure of the Dissociative Symptoms Scale comprises four domains: Depersonalization/Derealization, Gaps in Awareness and Memory, Cognitive-Behavioral Reexperiencing, and Sensory Misperceptions. In this article, we present a German version of the Dissociative Symptoms Scale (G-DSS) and examine the psychometric properties of s…

The relation between peritraumatic dissociation and coping strategies: A network analysis.

RESULTS: Analyses showed that: (a) PD formed 3 factors (alterations of consciousness, depersonalization, and compartmentalization) distinct from coping strategies; (b) PD related only to some CS; (c) coping through denial had a particularly strong link to alterations of consciousness among adults. Both altered consciousness and denial predicted PTS si …
