UNLABELLED: Occupational contact dermatitis is the most represented skin disease within the broad spectrum of occupational dermatoses, that also include skin cancers, skin infections and "scleroderma like disease." The scientific literature has long noted an increase in dermatological disease in the construction industry.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: retrospective evaluation (2003-2011), in a group of construction workers followed by the 'Territorial Joint Committee of Bergamo', of the prevalence of allergic and irritant contact dermatitis.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The following report confirms

BACKGROUND: Contact dermatoses are common in health care workers (HCWs).
OBJECTIVES: To (1) estimate the prevalence of occupation-relevant allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) among health care workers patch-tested from 1998 to 2004 by the North American Contact Dermatitis Group (NACDG), (2) characterize responsible allergens among health care workers overall as well as in specific health care occupational subgroups, and (3) compare these results to those of nonhealth care workers.
METHODS: Between 1998 and 2004, 15,896 patients were patch-tested by the NACDG. Occupation-related allergic patch-

We exploratively characterized T cell receptor (TCR) repertoires from occupational medicamentosa-like dermatitis due to trichloroethylene (OMDT) patients to better understand the underlying pathological mechanism. We used a combination of multiplex-PCR, Illumina sequencing and IMGT/High V-QUEST to analyze the characteristics and polymorphisms of the TCR β-chain complementarity-determining region 3 (CDR3) gene in 10 OMDT cases and 10 trichloroethylene-exposed healthy tolerant controls. Compared with the tolerant controls, OMDT cases showed no significant difference in TCR repertoire diversity i

OBJECTIVE: To explore the mechanism of occupational medicamentosa-like dermatitis (OMDT) induced by trichloroethylene (TCE) and some immunity indexes in workers occupationally exposed to TCE.
METHODS: The blood samples from 8 cases with medicamentosa-like dermatitis in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th weeks after admitting to hospital were examined for liver function, immunoglobulin and some complement indexes. Thirty nine workers occupationally exposed to TCE were investigated for urinary TCE and some immuno-complement indexes. The TCE concentrations of air in workplaces were monitored.

BACKGROUND: The global COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated the widespread use of dust masks, including N95 and DS2, in healthcare settings. Although allergic contact dermatitis caused by dust mask straps has been reported, component analysis of the straps is rare. We encountered an outbreak of dermatitis cases due to rubber straps of a DS2 mask (Mask A) at our hospital.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the cause of dermatitis associated with Mask A rubber strap, identify the allergens responsible for allergic contact dermatitis and propose suitable alternative masks.

BACKGROUND: Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) is the main allergen causing adverse reactions to hair dyes and a frequent cause of occupational-related skin sensitization among hairdressers and beauticians. The immunologic mechanism of the disease relies on the production of inflammatory cytokines by allergen-specific T cells, while regulatory T cells are thought to down-modulate the allergic response. This study was aimed at investigating the expression of effector or regulatory cytokines in exposed subjects in order to verify whether different cytokine profiles might predict distinct clinical outco

The dermatologist's procedure is a pivotal tool for early recognition of occupational contact dermatitis (OCD), for reporting OCD cases to the statutory accident insurance and for treating the diseases. The employer is in charge of implementing skin protection measures at the workplace. However, in terms of an individual prevention approach it may be necessary to propose targeted skin protection recommendations in specific patient cases. The patient's own skin protection behavior significantly contributes to regenerating and maintaining healthy skin. This behavior includes the use of occupatio

OBJECTIVES: The European Union (EU) strategy for health and safety at work underlines the need to reduce the incidence of occupational diseases (OD), but European statistics to evaluate this common goal are scarce. We aim to estimate and compare changes in incidence over time for occupational asthma, contact dermatitis, noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and upper limb musculoskeletal disorders across 10 European countries.
METHODS: OD surveillance systems that potentially reflected nationally representative trends in incidence within Belgium, the Czech Republic,

This article reviews the prognosis of contact dermatitis, particularly of occupational contact dermatitis. Most studies document a poor prognosis for occupational and nonoccupational contact dermatitis. The prognoses of occupational and nonoccupational contact dermatitis, irritant contact dermatitis, and allergic contact dermatitis are similar. Only a minority of studies on the prognosis of occupational contact dermatitis have found that a job change by the affected worker leads to clearing of the dermatitis. Dermatologic and nondermatologic factors associated with a poor prognosis are discuss

INTRODUCTION: Coronavirus disease 2019 was declared a pandemic by WHO in March 2020. The Indonesian Ministry of Health has recommended many prevention strategies including the use of hand sanitizers (HSs) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), especially for healthcare workers. Previous research reported that the increase in the use of HS and PPE is directly proportional to the increase in the incidence of occupational skin diseases.
AIMS: To find out the prevalence of work-related contact dermatitis patients related to the use of PPE in healthcare workers at Prof. DR. Chairuddin

BACKGROUND: Fruit-derived organic compounds and detergents are relevant exposure factors for occupational contact dermatitis in the food industry. Although individuals with atopic dermatitis (AD) are at risk for development of occupational contact dermatitis, there have been no controlled studies on the effects of repeated exposure to multiple irritants, relevant for the food industry, in atopic skin.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to investigate the outcomes of repeated exposure to a fruit-derived organic acid and a detergent in AD compared to healthy volunteers.
METHODS: The voluntee

Hairdressers belong to an occupational group that is commonly affected by occupational skin disease, specifically contact dermatitis, which may be allergic or irritant and, less commonly, contact urticaria. Occupational contact dermatitis predominantly affects apprentices, and atopy is a recognized risk factor associated with a poor prognosis. Repetitive wet work leading to irritant contact dermatitis, followed by exposure to allergens and the development of allergic contact dermatitis, are the main factors contributing to occupational contact dermatitis. Once developed, it is often difficult
