The authors report a case of primary rhabdomyosarcoma of the diaphragm, an extremely rare presentation with only 14 cases reported in the literature. An 18-year-old male presented 2 spontaneous occurrences of pneumothorax. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance showed a tumoral mass on the right diaphragmatic surface, and after biopsy, the diagnosis was compatible with spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma. A rare case of herniation through triple defects in the diaphragm with volvulus of the stomach is reported. Herniation with gastric volvulus was diagnosed preoperatively. Three diaphragmatic defects were detected at surgery. Repair of the defects after reduction of the abdominal contents resulted in an uneventful recovery.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the suitability and safety of a black diaphragm posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL).
SETTING: Department of Ophthalmology, Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds, United Kingdom.
METHODS: Seven patients who had secondary implantation of a Morcher 67G black diaphragm posterior chamber IOL were identified. Trauma-induced ruptures of the diaphragm are very exceptional but are regularly encountered in trauma surgery units. Closed ruptures occur in 60 to 80% of diaphragm lesions in European series, 9 times out of 10 after traffic accidents. Large American trauma centers however, have had more experience with stab of firearm wounds. The diagnosis raises many problems and requires further exploration after the standard chest x-ray. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has now become the "gold standard" for the treatment of gallstone disease. Parallel with the conversion from the open to laparoscopic technique, some complications peculiar to the laparoscopic approach have been experienced. A traumatic diaphragmatic hernia that appears late may have a fatal outcome. Traditionally, the most sensitive diagnostic modality for diaphragmatic injuries has been laparotomy. This results in unnecessary laparotomies. Laparoscopy is now an alternative method for the diagnosis and treatment of numerous intraabdominal disorders. We present a case of a penetrating diaphragmatic injury that was diagnosed and repaired via the laparoscope.
