Dental implant reconstruction after endodontic failure: report of case.

Avulsion of natural teeth caused by trauma may present an unusual problem for the general practitioner. Endodontic therapy and replantation of the tooth into the socket have a relatively low long-term prognosis because of internal or external root resorption. Dental implants can provide proper support and function for missing teeth with excellent esthetic results without preparation of natural dentition. In this case report, an implant system is used to restore an anterior space created by the loss of endodontically treated central and lateral incisors.

Local anesthesia failure in endodontic therapy: the acute inflammation factor.

The attainment of clinically acceptable local anesthesia is often problematic in the treatment of symptomatic pulpitis and symptomatic apical periodontitis. This article reviews the literature to identify the extent of this problem and to understand the organic components involved with this condition. Inflammation, infection, pH changes, alteration in nerve cell membranes, and anatomic variations are all possible causes for failure of local anesthesia during emergency endodontic therapy.

[Endodontic treatment of chronic apical periodontitis without periapical medication].

The aim of this research was to evaluate the clinical course of chronic apical periodontitis (CAP), treated only endodontically, without periapical medication. Chronic apical periodontitis cases of pulpal origin were used as a material and treated endodontically as individual clinical cases. Clinical and statistical procedures were applied. The percentage of efficient or non-efficient cases was evaluated on the basis of radiographic comparison of treated CAP immediately after obturation, and six months later. Influences of various factors on therapy effect were analysed: radiographic condition

Occurrence of microorganisms at different levels of the pulp. Contribution to endodontic techniques.

Microorganisms were absent in the remaining pulp stumps of twenty teeth which had been exposed to caries and contaminated at the pulpal chamber level. We have demonstrated that microorganisms are not carried to the deepest areas of the pulp when the basic procedure is strict antisepsis applied to the living pulp stump. A sterile and living pulp stump wound contributes to an adequate biologic sealing of the apical foramen. Of all the isolated microorganisms, the alpha hemolytic Streptococcus was most frequently found in all examined cases, in pure or mixed cultures, demonstrating once again he

[Clinical and bacteriological studies with metronidazol in endodontic therapy (author's transl)].

Metronidazol was employed in the endodontic treatment of 200 gangrenous teeth, with symptoms of acute and chronic periodontitis. In 50 cases aerobic and anaerobic microbiological cultivations have been performed. The number of the necessary treatments was less, symptoms of irritation in the periapical region could not be observed. The favourable clinical and microbiological results in the course of the Metronidazol treatment point to the role of the anaerobic microorganisms in connection with the inflammatory symptoms of the gangrenous pulp.

A Novel Laboratorial Approach to Evaluate Bacterial Microleakage of Endodontic Sealers.

To avoid failure of endodontic treatment, it is important to properly seal the root canals after chemomechanical preparation in order to avoid microleakage. Typically, sealing involves the use of gutta-percha and sealing cement, the latter of which adheres to the dentin and fills the spaces between the gutta-percha and the dentin walls. Laboratory studies have been performed to detect microleakage of endodontic sealers based on various criteria, including microbiological ones; however, none guaranteed that the leakage occurred through the root canal space and not through other pathways. This a

[Analysis and management of the influence of periapical lesion size on endodontic microsurgery].

Endodontic microsurgery is a critical treatment option that is often considered when conventional root canal therapy fails or when complex periapical diseases cannot be resolved through non-surgical treatment. The clinical outcomes of endodontic microsurgery are influenced by multiple factors. Among these, the size of the periapical lesion is considered a key variable that can significantly impact surgical design, operative difficulty, postoperative infection control, and tissue healing. This article systematically discusses the mechanisms by which the size of periapical lesions affects the ef

Compressive strength of endodontically treated mandibularpremolars rehabilitated with three techniques.

UNLABELLED: The biomechanical rehabilitation of endodontically treated premolars with extensive mesio-occlusodistal (MOD) cavities is a clinical challenge due to their increased susceptibility to fracture. AIM: To compare the compressive strength of endodontically treated mandibular premolars restored using different post-endodontic reconstruction protocols, using intact teeth as a reference for maximum mechanical performance. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Forty single-rooted premolars were distributed into four groups: one control group with no interventions, and three experimental groups with stan

Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus Following Endodontic Treatment: A Case Report.

Herpes zoster ophthalmicus, resulting from varicella-zoster virus reactivation along the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve, is a rare but potentially sight-threatening condition that warrants awareness in clinical dental practice. A 36-year-old male presented 3 days after nonsurgical root canal treatment of the right maxillary first molar with severe migraine-like neuropathic pain, unilateral vesiculobullous eruptions along the V1 dermatome, periorbital edema, and conjunctival hyperemia. The treated tooth exhibited no remarkable clinical or radiographic findings. Dermatological evalu

Antibacterial activity of novel nanoparticles against persistent endodontic pathogens.

Persistent endodontic infections remain difficult to eradicate due to the resistance of biofilm-forming pathogens to conventional medicaments. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate Ag-ZnO hybrid nanoparticles synthesized via a sol-gel method for their antimicrobial efficacy against E. faecalis, C. albicans and A. israelii. The nanoparticles showed strong antibacterial activity, including large inhibition zones, low MIC values (12.5-25 µg/mL) and 87.3% biofilm suppression at 100 µg/mL. Cytotoxicity testing confirmed >80% fibroblast viability at therapeutic concentrations. Ag-ZnO NPs demonstr
