Water is essential during dental care. Physical and chemical techniques should be used to maintain a good water quality with respect to bacteria, and to ensure the safety of exposed patients and dental staff. The aim of this survey was to assess the modalities used by dental practitioners in Eastern France to maintain the water quality of their dental unit waterlines (DUWLs). With the COVID-19 pandemic depleting personal protective equipment worldwide, various methods including ultraviolet C (UVC) germicidal irradiation (UVGI) have been implemented to decontaminate N95 filtering facepiece respirators. These devices pose a risk for UVC exposure to the operator with reported adverse effects generally limited to the eyes and skin. Raw (fresh) and frozen poultry products are frequently associated with Staphylococcus aureus contamination. New Zealand is among the developed countries with high incidences of staphylococcal food poisoning. RATIONALE: Ethylene oxide (EO) sterilization is commonly employed for the sterilization of medical devices and has a very high market share. However, EO and its metabolite ethylene chlorohydrin (ECH) are toxic to humans. In compliance with the classification and residue limits of medical devices defined by ISO 10993-7, our study established two extraction methods for the testing of EO and ECH.

One hundred four multiple lumen central venous catheters (MLC) were evaluated in 74 seriously ill patients. Eighty percent of the catheters were placed in an intensive care unit. Each MLC served as access for a mean of 4.5 different functions, including infusions, central venous monitoring and phlebotomy.
