Melanotic Neuroectodermal Tumor of Infancy: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Melanotic neuroectodermal tumor of infancy (MNTI), first described almost a century back, is of neural crest origin, locally aggressive, a rare biphasic neoplasm of infancy with a slightly higher male preponderance. In the last 100 years since the first description of MNTI, only around 500 cases have been described from 32 countries. We present a 7-month-old female child with 3 × 2 cm hard swelling in the oral cavity and right-side facial region for 3 months. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging scan revealed a hypodense lesion of size 2.5

Late Recurrence of a Rare Middle Ear Neuroendocrine Tumor With an Intracranial Extension to the Temporal Fossa: A Case Report.

We report a clinical case of an extremely rare neuroendocrine tumor of the right middle ear (MeNET) that recurred after 13 years with a local extension into the right temporal fossa. In the current medical literature, there are approximately 150 cases of MeNETs and even fewer cases with more than 10 years of follow-up, recurrence, and intracranial tumor progression. Therefore, we believe that this paper can make an important contribution to the existing and future knowledge about this disease. The purpose of this article is to present our experience in treating such a rare neoplasm in a 35-yea

Radiation-induced sarcoma in a cat following hypofractionated, palliative intent radiation therapy for large-cell lymphoma.

CASE SUMMARY: A 5-year-old female spayed domestic shorthair cat was presented with a 4.5 × 3 cm ulcerated cutaneous mass on the nasal bridge with extension into the nasal cavity. Tissue biopsy was obtained and a diagnosis of large-cell lymphoma was confirmed on histopathology. The cat was started on prednisolone and injectable chemotherapy; however, only a partial response was observed. A CT scan revealed a highly infiltrative mass with extensive subcutaneous involvement, extending into the nasal cavity, resulting in lysis of numerous nasal and facial bones. The cat received hypofractionated,

[Malignant neoplasms localised in the parameningeal region in children treated at two Polish oncological centres-diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas].

UNLABELLED: Malignant neoplasms localized in the parameningeal region include mainly soft tissue sarcomas (MTM), non-Hodgkin s lymphomas (NHL-B) and, less frequently, nasopharyngeal carcinomas. The aim of the study was to analyze diagnostic and therapeutic problems in children with parameniingeal neoplasms treated in Departments of Paediatric Oncology in Gdansk and Lublin between 1992 and 2004. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study includes 32 patients (M/F: 23/9), aged 2 to 17 years, mean 6,3 years. In 17 children MTM was diagnosed: in nine NHL-B-cell and in six--nasopharyngeal carcinoma (lymphoep

[Computer tomography of the facial skeleton and pharyngeal space (author's transl)].

Seventy-five patients with histologically confirmed abnormalities of the facial skeleton and pharynx, including the mouth and base of the tongue, were examined by computer tomography. The advantages of simultaneous demonstration of the soft tissues and bones in localised space-occupying lesions are pointed out. Accurate comparison between pre-operative descriptions and findings at operation in 30 cases showed high diagnostic accuracy. Conventional, multi-dimensional film tomography is being increasingly replaced by computer tomography.

Comparison of conventional and endoscope-assisted partial clretain-->superficial parotidectomy for benign neoplasms of the parotid gland: a matched case-control study.

Long-term tumour recurrence rates and complications of endoscope-assisted partial superficial parotidectomy (PSP) are rarely reported compared to traditional open approaches. This retrospective study included 306 patients with superficial parotid benign neoplasms who were divided into an endoscopy group (endoscope-assisted PSP, n = 102) and a control group (conventional PSP, n = 204). There were no significant differences in clinical and pathological characteristics between the two groups, except age (P = 0.001). Three patients had confirmed recurrence during a mean follow-up duration of 125.1

Solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura presenting with syncope episodes when coughing.

BACKGROUND: Solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura is a rarely encountered clinical entity which may have different clinical pictures. Although the majority of these neoplasms have a benign course, the malignant form has also been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: We herein describe a case of 72 year-old man with head, facial, and thoracic traumas caused by neurally-mediated situational syncope when coughing. The diagnostic work-up including chest x-ray, CT and PET, revealed a large solitary mass of the left hemithorax. Radical surgical resection of the mass was performed through a left lateral thor

Oncocytoma of the Parotid Gland in the Setting of Birt-Hogg-Dube Syndrome.

Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome (BHD) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder caused by germline mutations in the FLCN gene, characterized by cutaneous fibrofolliculomas, pulmonary cysts, and an increased risk of renal neoplasms. Parotid oncocytoma is an infrequently reported extracutaneous manifestation of the syndrome. A 30-year-old man with a prior history of testicular embryonal cell carcinoma presented with a right-sided neck mass. Workup of the parotid lesion ultimately led to a new diagnosis of BHD, confirmed by FLCN germline mutation testing. The patient underwent right parotidectomy, which was

A Rare Case of Acromegaly and Prolactinoma in MEN4 Caused by a CDKN1B Mutation.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) comprises a group of rare autosomal dominant genetic disorders characterized by the development of benign or malignant tumors in 2 or more endocrine glands, most commonly including the thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, adrenal glands, and pancreatic neuroendocrine tissues. MEN4 is a recently recognized subtype that phenotypically overlaps with MEN1 and is caused by germline mutations in the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 1B (CDKN1B) gene. However, due to the limited number of reported cases and the lack of standardized clinical guideli

Amyloidosis Localized to the Sinonasal Tract: From the Diagnosis to Management of Disease.

Amyloidosis is a mainly systemic rare disease and its localized presentation is even less frequent. Systemic forms are often associated with other conditions or entities (such as neoplasms), and a correct etiological study of patients with this disease is essential. A localized presentation has a better prognosis compared to systemic forms, which underlines the importance of a correct diagnosis. Primary localized amyloidosis in the head and neck region is a rare entity. Primary amyloidosis localized to the sinonasal tract is extremely rare. Although uncommon, case reports have been increasing

A rare complication of hemolacria after Le fort I osteotomy: a case presentation.

BACKGROUND: Nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NDO) is a common pathology preventing the proper drainage of the tears, and its main symptom is epiphora. Secondary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction (SANDO) can be due to a variety of causes including infection, trauma, or neoplasms. It has been reported to occur with different forms of maxillofacial trauma, especially Le Fort II, Le Fort III, naso-orbital-ethmoidal, and orbital floor fractures. CASE PRESENTATION: A 20-year-old Egyptian female presented to correct a facial disharmony due to a cleft lip and palate defect. The patient reported a

Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Metastatic to the Pituitary: A Case Report and Discussion of Potential Diagnostic Value of Magnetic Resonance Elastography in Pituitary Tumors.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is an exocrine gland tumor accounting for approximately 10%-15% of all epithelial salivary neoplasms and occurs most often in the parotid and submandibular glands. Metastatic pituitary tumors are rare, and there is only 1 previously reported case of parotid ACC metastatic to the pituitary. Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based technique that measures the propagation of mechanically induced shear waves through a particular tissue to determine stiffness and offers a method to evaluate tissue consistency. We presen

Giant ethmoid osteoma originated from the lamina papyracea.

INTRODUCTION: Osteomas are slow- growing, benign tumors. They are the most common neoplasms of the paranasal sinuses. They are usually originates from the frontal and ethmoid sinus and much less frequently seen in the maxillary and sphenoid sinuses. Although the lamina papyracea is a part of ethmoid bone, a giant osteoma originated from the lamina papyracea is very uncommon. An osteoma of the paranasal sinus is usually asymptomatic. [Lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the conjunctiva: an unusual location].

Lymphoepithelial carcinoma is an undifferentiated carcinoma associated with a lymphocytic infiltration and constitutes a rare category of malignant neoplasms that share morphologic features with undifferentiated nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Its pathogenic aspects remain unknown and it has been described at several sites, but it is rarely found in the conjunctiva. We report a case in a patient aged 66, revealed by a tumefaction of the internal angle of the left eye. The initial examination found a tumoral lesion in the medial canthus, extending to the medial half of the lower eyelid and a preauric
