Integrating noncommunicable disease care in a public primary health care facility in North Lebanon: A qualitative study of implementation in a humanitarian crisis.

Integrated care for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) may enhance care delivery, clinical impact, user-satisfaction, and access. However, evidence on integrated NCD care in humanitarian settings remains scarce. This qualitative study accompanied the first year of implementation (March 2023 to March 2024) of an integrated care programme at an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)-supported, Ministry of Public Health-affiliated primary healthcare centre (PHC) in North Lebanon. A preceding theory of change (TOC) workshop on combining NCD PHC, mental health and psychosocial support (MPHSS

Barriers and facilitators to implementing an integrated electronic health records system to improve tuberculosis preventive treatment among people living with HIV: a content analysis study from Georgia.

INTRODUCTION: The integration of tuberculosis (TB) preventive treatment (TPT) into HIV services through electronic health records (EHR) can improve outcomes by enhancing care coordination, reducing redundancies, and supporting data-driven decision-making. In Georgia, despite close collaboration between TB and HIV programs, service delivery and data systems remain siloed, forcing patients to navigate between facilities and limiting the effectiveness of TPT among people living with HIV (PWH). METHODS: We conducted a qualitative study guided by the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Resea

Women's experiences toward cervical cancer care at the initiation of care: a qualitative study closing the gap policy and implementation in Indonesia.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer remains a major public health concern in Indonesia despite ongoing national efforts toward elimination. While policy initiatives have expanded screening and treatment services, limited evidence exists regarding women's lived experiences during the early stage of cervical cancer care. Understanding women's perspectives is essential to strengthening a national care strategy. OBJECTIVE: To explore women's experiences during the early stage of cervical cancer care in Indonesia, from symptom recognition and abnormal screening results to diagnosis and initiation of tre

Regional features in the treatment of Parkinson's disease in the Baltic States compared to Germany.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor symptoms, alongside non-motor manifestations. In advanced stages, people with PD (PwP) require extensive support to maintain mobility and quality of life, creating substantial demand on healthcare and reimbursement systems. Reported prevalence varies across Europe, with Germany at 350 per 100,000, Estonia at 314 per 100,000, Lithuania at 265 per 100,000, and Latvia at 217 per 100,000. This study applies a structured, qualitative comparative policy mapping approach (a subtype of comparative policy analys

Gender differences in well-being among people living with non-communicable disease: The influence of social capital and grants.

BACKGROUND: This study explores how non-communicable diseases (NCDs), social capital, and government grants (social grants) influence subjective well-being (SWB) among individuals aged 40 and older in rural South Africa. Understanding gender differences in these relationships provides insights for improving public health interventions in resource-constrained settings. METHODS: Data from 2,432 participants in the HAALSI Wave 3 study were analyzed to examine the predictors of SWB using regression models. Key covariates included age, education, marital status, employment, wealth, religion, socia

Charting the path to the implementation of universal health coverage policy in Nigeria through the lens of Delphi methodology.

BACKGROUND: Expanding access to equitable health insurance is an important lever towards the overall strategy for achieving universal health coverage. In Nigeria, health insurance coverage is low with a renewed government action on increasing access to and coverage of high-quality healthcare services to citizens, particularly for the vulnerable and poor population. Therefore, our study co-creates the priorities for expanding health insurance in Nigeria, focusing on key policy reforms, public advocacy, and innovative financing strategies to ensure broader and more equitable coverage for the pop

Uses of private health provider data for governance in low-income and middle-income countries: results from a scoping review.

UNLABELLED: This work grew from an interest in understanding how private data are used for health system governance in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs). OBJECTIVE: We conducted a scoping review to understand how the public sector collects routine data from the private health sector and uses it for governance purposes. The private health sector was defined to include both formal and informal, for-profit or non-profit, actors delivering healthcare services. FINDINGS: We identified 4014 individual English language studies published between 2010 and 2021. We reviewed titles and abs

System-level factors shaping the implementation of "hub and spoke" systems to expand MOUD in rural areas.

Background: Hub and spoke systems (HSS) are increasingly promoted as a systems-level intervention to expand access to medication for opioid use disorders (MOUD), particularly in rural areas with limited treatment options. The HSS model consists of sub-systems in which "hubs" deliver specialized expertise to a regional network of office-based opioid treatment (OBOT) providers in "spokes," who together create a continuum of acute and chronic care. Yet, little is known about system-level factors (e.g., system structure, financing) that influence HSS implementation and sustainability in rural area

Protocol for the evaluation of a free health insurance card scheme for poor pregnant women in Mbeya region in Tanzania: a controlled-before and after study.

BACKGROUND: The use of demand-side financing mechanisms to increase health service utilisation among target groups and enhance service quality is gaining momentum in many low- and middle-income countries. However, there is limited evidence on the effects of such schemes on equity, financial protection, quality of care, and cost-effectiveness. A scheme providing free health insurance cards to poor pregnant women and their households was first introduced in two regions of Tanzania in 2011 and gradually expanded in 2012. METHODS: A controlled before and after study will examine in one district t

The Diagnostic Pathway Experiences of People Living with Rare Dementia and Their Family Caregivers: A Cross-Sectional Mixed Methods Study Using Qualitative and Economic Analyses.

The pathways for receiving a diagnosis of a rare type of dementia are poorly understood. Diagnostic challenges decrease access to relevant health promotion activities and post-diagnostic support. This study was focused on pathways experienced by people affected by rare dementia in Wales, United Kingdom (UK), considering the practical, emotional, and economic consequences. Semi-structured interviews were completed with 10 people affected by rare dementia across Wales, UK (nine family caregivers and one person living with rare dementia). The interview data were subject to a thematic analysis and

Incremental cost of venous thromboembolism in trauma patients with contraindications to prophylactic anticoagulation: a prospective economic study.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is common in patients after major trauma. Attributable cost of VTE and whether this is related to the severity of injury have not been thoroughly investigated. We aimed to define the hospitalization costs of VTE and assess whether the costs were related to the severity of injury in this prospective economic study. Cost data of each patient enrolled in the da Vinci trial were drawn from hospital finance departments and standardized to 2020 Australian dollars (A$); and Injury Severity Score and Trauma Embolic Scoring System were used to quantify the severity of injur

Reducing Cardiovascular Maternal Mortality by Extending Medicaid for Postpartum Women.

Maternal mortality has been increasing in the United States over the past 3 decades, while decreasing in all other high-income countries during the same period. Cardiovascular conditions account for over one fourth of maternal deaths, with two thirds of deaths occurring in the postpartum period. There are also significant healthcare disparities that have been identified in women experiencing maternal morbidity and mortality, with Black women at 3 to 4 times the risk of death as their White counterparts and women in rural areas at heightened risk for cardiovascular morbidity and maternal morbid

Patterns of Health Care Costs Due to External Ventricular Drain Infections.

BACKGROUND: External ventricular drain (EVD) infections are a significant cause of morbidity among neurosurgical patients and have been correlated with increased length of hospital stay and longer requirements for intensive care. To date, no studies have examined the financial impact of EVD infections. METHODS: Patients who underwent EVD placement between December 2010 and January 2016 were included in the study. Clinical records were retrospectively reviewed and health care cost data were obtained from the hospital's finance department. Clinical information included patient demographics, det

The Iranian model of living renal transplantation.

Organ shortage for transplantation remains a worldwide serious problem for kidney patients with end-stage renal failure, and several countries have tried different models to address this issue. Iran has 20 years of experience with one such model that involves the active role of the government and charity foundations. Patients with a desperate demand for a kidney have given rise to a black market of brokers and other forms of organ commercialism only accessible to those with sufficient financial resources. The current Iranian model has enabled most of the Iranian kidney transplant candidates, i
