A 12-year-old girl was admitted for abdominal pain and signs of acute kidney injury. Physical examination showed abdominal distension and a tumefaction in the lower abdomen. Laboratory and clinical findings were consistent with acute kidney injury. Abdominal ultrasonography showed an oval mass, which corresponded with hematometrocolpos, and right-sided hydronephrosis. OBJECTIVE: This study investigated mRNA and protein expression of four renal aquaporin isoforms [AQP1, 2, 3 and 4 (AQP1-4)] in congenital hydronephrotic kidneys (HK) due to pelviureteral junction obstruction and normal control kidneys.

OBJECTIVE: Patients presenting to the ED with obstructive nephropathies benefit from early detection of hydronephrosis. Out of hours radiological imaging is expensive and disruptive to arrange. The purpose of our investigation was to determine the association between flank pain and maternal hydronephrosis during pregnancy. Congenital hydronephrosis is one of the most common anomalies found in humans and may cause renal failure in childhood. Half of the cases are due to obstruction at the ureteropelvic junction (UPJ). Here we report that mice lacking Id2, an inhibitor of basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors, exhibit hydronephrosis mimicking the characteristics of human cases such as unilaterality and male preponderance. A 68-year-old man with a history of nephrectomy of the right kidney was admitted to our hospital with a 1-month history of polyuria (> 41 per day). He also exhibited hyposthenuria, which was unresponsive to treatment with exogenous vasopressin. Radiographic examination revealed partial obstruction of the left ureter and moderate hydronephrosis. Increased urinary outputs are common after release of bilateral ureteral or subvesical obstruction. However, polyuria is rare following unilateral obstruction. We report a case of excessive postobstructive diuresis of more than 58,000 ml per day (204 l in 10 days) after release of a left ureteral obstruction in a 56-year-old female, being the highest amounts reported in the literature. We report a case of ureteral polyp causing intermittent hydronephrosis in a 12-year-old boy. He was often hospitalized with episodes of right flank pain and gross hematuria. An excretory urogram (IVP) revealed mild hydronephrosis, but it showed a markedly dilated right renal pelvis during the attack. An Anderson-Hynes type pyeloplasty was done. At operation we found four ureteral polyps, and performed partial ureterectomy including polyps. Pathological examination showed fibrous ureteral polyps. He has reported no symptoms for 3 months after the operation.
