As hypersensitivity to natural rubber latex (NRL) has become an increasingly recognized problem in children, identification of all groups at risk seems important. In this study hypersensitivity to NRL was evaluated in 337 children with potential risk factors. We identified by questionnaire children's underlying diseases, history of surgical procedures, evidence of atopy and patient's history of NRL-specific reactions. Hypersensitivity reactions to chromium, nickel and cobalt were investigated in the preclinical, fourth year and fifth year students of the Dentistry Faculty of Marmara University, Türkiye. A Standard patch test was performed. Four patches were applied to the shoulder blades of the students. A case of a Caucasian girl with leukocytoclastic vasculitis, polyarthritis and eosinophilia is presented. A blood test showed microfilariasis, probably of the Loa Loa type. Ten patients with irritable bowel syndrome were evaluated for food hypersensitivity with skin testing (IgE) and IgG serum antibodies (RAST panel) to common food antigens. A 69 year-old woman with no previous history of lung disease was treated with 500 mg of Amiodarone per week. After 21 months of treatment, she developed a clinical picture of alveolitis with fibrosis, which was confirmed by histological examination.
