SegMotion-Net: Segmentation-guided motion analysis for early myocardial infarction detection from echocardiography video.

Myocardial infarction (MI) remains a major clinical challenge, and early detection is essential to prevent irreversible myocardial damage. However, echocardiography-based MI detection relies heavily on physicians' subjective interpretation, leading to inter-observer variability and suboptimal performance. To address these challenges, we propose SegMotion-Net, an interpretable framework that integrates segmentation-derived anatomical priors with motion representation learning for MI detection. Specifically, a task-specific memory mechanism is employed to aggregate spatiotemporal features across

FD-MSP: feature decoupling network with multi-scale prototypes for domain-adaptive polyp segmentation.

Polyp segmentation in colonoscopy images plays a critical role in the early detection and treatment of colorectal cancer. Although deep learning-based segmentation models have achieved remarkable success, their performance is often limited by variable imaging protocols or unseen datasets from different endoscopic devices. To address this challenge, unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) methods have emerged as a promising solution, leveraging labeled source data and unlabeled target data to bridge the domain gap. However, existing UDA models suffer from two key limitations. First, they entangle

YOLO-LXR: An Enhanced Model for Pathology Detection in Chest X-Rays.

Algorithms for object detection, particularly those based on YOLO, have demonstrated impressive effectiveness in achieving a balance between accuracy and speed. Their use in medical imaging has shown promise, but remains underexplored. In this study, a YOLO-like model is proposed that focuses on detecting lung pathologies in X-ray images, is based on YOLOv5, and uses Squeeze-and-Excite and Residual Blocks. It outperforms most YOLO and YOLO-like architectures in terms of accuracy, and compared to YOLOv5, experiments showed an increase in recall and mAP@50 of 3.3% and 1.5%, respectively. The sug

A CNN-injected transformer network with lesion reconstruction for multi-view diabetic retinopathy grading.

The type and quantity of lesions are critical determinants in the assessment of diabetic retinopathy (DR) grading. Since multi-view fundus images provide a broader field of view and capture more lesions, multi-view DR grading has garnered increasing attention in recent years. However, existing multi-view methods either only focus on fundus feature extraction, or only take the lesion map as a part of the input, failing to fully leverage the comprehensive lesion information. Moreover, the significant variation in lesion size and their scattered distribution present substantial challenges for eff

Expert-Guided Cross-View Fusion With Self-Derived Lesion Proposals for Multi-View Diabetic Retinopathy Grading.

Recent advances in multi-view fundus imaging show great promise for automated diabetic retinopathy (DR) grading. However, mainstream end-to-end CNN/Transformer pipelines rely on striding or tokenization that compresses spatial detail, causing small, low-contrast lesions (e.g., microaneurysms) to be under-represented and creating performance ceilings. Prior efforts have mitigated this by incorporating external lesion- or vessel-level annotations into models. However, such labels are costly to acquire, break the end-to-end training, and make performance over-reliant on the annotation quality. To

DFMFI: ultrasound breast cancer detection method based on dynamic fusion multi-scale feature interaction model.

Ultrasound imaging has become an important method of breast cancer screening due to its non-invasive, low-cost, and ionizing radiation-free characteristics. However, the complexity and uncertainty of ultrasound images (such as speckle noise, morphological diversity of lesion areas, and inter-class similarity) pose challenges to traditional computer-aided diagnosis systems. In response to these issues, this paper proposes a Dynamic Fusion Multi-Scale Feature Interaction Model (DFMFI), specifically designed for the task of benign and malignant breast cancer detection in ultrasound imaging. QMix: Quality-Aware Learning With Mixed Noise for Robust Retinal Disease Diagnosis.

Due to the complex nature of medical image acquisition and annotation, medical datasets inevitably contain noise. This adversely affects the robustness and generalization of deep neural networks. Previous noise learning methods mainly considered noise arising from images being mislabeled, i.e., label noise, assuming all mislabeled images were of high quality. However, medical images can also suffer from severe data quality issues, i.e., data noise, where discriminative visual features for disease diagnosis are missing. In this paper, we propose QMix, a noise learning framework that learns a ro

A multi-stage multi-modal learning algorithm with adaptive multimodal fusion for improving multi-label skin lesion classification.

Skin cancer is frequently occurring and has become a major contributor to both cancer incidence and mortality. Accurate and timely diagnosis of skin cancer holds the potential to save lives. Deep learning-based methods have demonstrated significant advancements in the screening of skin cancers. However, most current approaches rely on a single modality input for diagnosis, thereby missing out on valuable complementary information that could enhance accuracy. Although some multimodal-based methods exist, they often lack adaptability and fail to fully leverage multimodal information. In this pap

Uncertainty-Driven Parallel Transformer-Based Segmentation for Oral Disease Dataset.

Accurate oral disease segmentation is a challenging task, for three major reasons: 1) The same type of oral disease has a diversity of size, color and texture; 2) The boundary between oral lesions and their surrounding mucosa is not sharp; 3) There is a lack of public large-scale oral disease segmentation datasets. To address these issues, we first report an oral disease segmentation network termed Oralformer, which enables to tackle multiple oral diseases. Specifically, we use a parallel design to combine local-window self-attention (LWSA) with channel-wise convolution (CWC), modeling cross-w

U-ConvNext: A Robust Approach to Glioma Segmentation in Intraoperative Ultrasound.

Intraoperative tumor imaging is critical to achieving maximal safe resection during neurosurgery, especially for low-grade glioma resection. Given the convenience of ultrasound as an intraoperative imaging modality, but also the limitations of the ultrasound modality and the time-consuming process of manual tumor segmentation, we propose a learning-based model for the accurate segmentation of low-grade gliomas in ultrasound images. We developed a novel U-net-based architecture adopting the block architecture of the ConvNext V2 model, titled U-ConvNext, which also incorporates various architect

TRUSWorthy: toward clinically applicable deep learning for confident detection of prostate cancer in micro-ultrasound.

PURPOSE: While deep learning methods have shown great promise in improving the effectiveness of prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis by detecting suspicious lesions from trans-rectal ultrasound (TRUS), they must overcome multiple simultaneous challenges. There is high heterogeneity in tissue appearance, significant class imbalance in favor of benign examples, and scarcity in the number and quality of ground truth annotations available to train models. Failure to address even a single one of these problems can result in unacceptable clinical outcomes. METHODS: We propose TRUSWorthy, a carefully des

ViTCAI: A Vision-Language Model for Automated Triage and Captioning of Postoperative Incision Images Submitted by Remote Patients.

Surgical site infections (SSIs) are common postoperative complications that increase patient morbidity, hospital stays, and healthcare costs. Early detection and precise documentation are critical for timely intervention and improved outcomes. While patients often submit images of their wounds through a patient portal for remote monitoring, manual review is challenging due to image variability, high volume, and subjectivity, underscoring the need for automated assessment tools. In this paper, we present Vision Transformer for CAptioning of Incision Images (ViTCAI), a vision-language model desi

Know your orientation: A viewpoint-aware framework for polyp segmentation.

Automatic polyp segmentation in endoscopic images is critical for the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer. Despite the availability of powerful segmentation models, two challenges still impede the accuracy of polyp segmentation algorithms. Firstly, during a colonoscopy, physicians frequently adjust the orientation of the colonoscope tip to capture underlying lesions, resulting in viewpoint changes in the colonoscopy images. These variations increase the diversity of polyp visual appearance, posing a challenge for learning robust polyp features. Secondly, polyps often exhibit properties simila

Active learning based on multi-enhanced views for classification of multiple patterns in lung ultrasound images.

There are several main patterns in lung ultrasound (LUS) images, including A-lines, B-lines, consolidation and pleural effusion. LUS images of healthy lungs typically only exhibit A-lines, while other patterns may emerge or coexist in LUS images associated with different lung diseases. The accurate categorization of these primary patterns is pivotal for effective lung disease screening. However, two challenges complicate the classification task: the first is the inherent blurring of feature differences between main patterns due to ultrasound imaging properties; and the second is the potential

UniChest: Conquer-and-Divide Pre-Training for Multi-Source Chest X-Ray Classification.

Vision-Language Pre-training (VLP) that utilizes the multi-modal information to promote the training efficiency and effectiveness, has achieved great success in vision recognition of natural domains and shown promise in medical imaging diagnosis for the Chest X-Rays (CXRs). However, current works mainly pay attention to the exploration on single dataset of CXRs, which locks the potential of this powerful paradigm on larger hybrid of multi-source CXRs datasets. We identify that although blending samples from the diverse sources offers the advantages to improve the model generalization, it is st

A systematic review of the application of machine learning techniques to ultrasound tongue imaging analysis.

B-mode ultrasound has emerged as a prevalent tool for observing tongue motion in speech production, gaining traction in speech therapy applications. However, the effective analysis of ultrasound tongue image frame sequences (UTIFs) encounters many challenges, such as the presence of high levels of speckle noise and obscured views. Recently, the application of machine learning, especially deep learning techniques, to UTIF interpretation has shown promise in overcoming these hurdles. This paper presents a thorough examination of the existing literature, focusing on UTIF analysis. The scope of ou

Domain transformation using semi-supervised CycleGAN for improving performance of classifying thyroid tissue images.

PURPOSE: A large number of research has been conducted on the classification of medical images using deep learning. The thyroid tissue images can be also classified by cancer types. Deep learning requires a large amount of data, but every medical institution cannot collect sufficient number of data for deep learning. In that case, we can consider a case where a classifier trained at a certain medical institution that has a sufficient number of data is reused at other institutions. However, when using data from multiple institutions, it is necessary to unify the feature distribution because the

Visual attribution using Adversarial Latent Transformations.

The ability to accurately locate all indicators of disease within medical images is vital for comprehending the effects of the disease, as well as for weakly-supervised segmentation and localization of the diagnostic correlators of disease. Existing methods either use classifiers to make predictions based on class-salient regions or else use adversarial learning based image-to-image translation to capture such disease effects. However, the former does not capture all relevant features for visual attribution (VA) and are prone to data biases; the latter can generate adversarial (misleading) and
