BACKGROUND: Tinea pedis and tinea manuum in children are more common than previously recognized. Clinical presentations of dermatophyte infections may vary in children and may be difficult to diagnose.
OBJECTIVE: To show the necessity of potassium hydroxide preparations and/or fungal cultures in assessing suspicious cases of cellulitis in children who may have dermatophyte infections.
PATIENTS: We describe 4 children with inflammatory tinea pedis or tinea manuum who were initially misdiagnosed as having bacterial cellulitis.
INTERVENTION: A potassium hydroxide examination was performed on 3

The most common bacterial skin conditions in dogs are reviewed in the present paper. An introductory part on the pathogenesis of pyoderma and some universal morphological dermatological concepts is followed by a systematic study of superficial and deep forms of pyoderma. In addition to the bacterial diagnosis, the results of bacteriological examination of fifty-three dogs with pyoderma submitted to the University Clinic of small animal medicine are reported. Moreover, a guide to the institution of adequate therapy is suggested.

Roots of Stemona tuberoso have been extracted by using fixed-bed contacting method with serial and parallel technique. In order to extract secondary metabolites from roots of Stemona sp., various organic solvents with different polarities were employed. Optimal solvents for the extraction of effective ingredients from root were determined. The results showed that in most cases the yields of crude extract were highest by using parallel technique rather than serial technique. The highest yields of crude extract by using both techniques were obtained with acetone, followed by water, ethanol, meth

Skin infection occurs in any age-group, sex, and race but is particularly common in children. It is usually minor, but may indicate underlying systemic disease or may lead to systemic infection. Streptococci and staphylococci are common causes. Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci account for the majority of streptococcal infections in man. Infection most often involves the lower extremities and produces spreading erythema and necrosis but little purulence. Staphylococcal infections most commonly involve the face, the hair follicles and eccrine sweat ducts being the initial sites. Lesions appea

The analysis of host defenses in 4 patients with staphylococcal toxic epidermal necrolysis revealed normal serum immunoglobulin levels, but a deficiency in cell-mediated immunity as detected by the tuberculin reactions. We suspected that the transient deficiency of cell-mediated immunity may have contributed to the development of this disease.

During 1 January 2016-30 September 2020, there were 210,914 incident cases of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) among active component U.S. military members, corresponding to a crude overall incidence rate of 352.8 per 10,000 person-years (p-yrs). An additional 4,250 cases occurred in theaters of operations (251.0 per 10,000 p-yrs). Of the total incident SSTI diagnoses, 64.5% were classified as cellulitis/abscess, 30.0% were "other SSTIs" (e.g., folliculitis, impetigo), 5.3% were carbuncles/furuncles, and 0.2% were erysipelas. Crude annual incidence rates declined by 21.9% over the surve…

Although Asian cultural practices, such as acupuncture and threading, are widely used, there is limited medical literature describing their … tinea corporis, koebnerization, and even squamous cell carcinoma. Threading may cause folliculitis, impetigo, and verrucae. The increasing prevalence of Asian cultural practices, which are performed inside and outside of Asia in this era of globalization, demands that dermatologists be familiar with the secondary dermatoses that may develop.
