Efficacy of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine in managing mild-moderate acute pancreatitis: a real-world clinical perspective analysis.

BACKGROUND: Given the prevalent utilization of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine (ITCWM) in the management of acute pancreatitis, the majority of studies have concentrated on severe cases, lacking robust evidence-based medical research. Real-world investigations can provide an objective assessment of the clinical effectiveness of combining traditional Chinese medicine with western medicine. Consequently, relying on real-world research, we intend to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of the combined approach in treating mild to moderate acute pancreatitis. METHODS: A t

Integrated analysis of effect of daisaikoto, a traditional Japanese medicine, on the metabolome and gut microbiome in a mouse model of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Dysregulation of lipid metabolism and diabetes are risk factors for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and the gut-liver axis and intestinal microbiome are known to be highly associated with the pathogenesis of this disease. In Japan, the traditional medicine daisaikoto (DST) is prescribed for individuals affected by hepatic dysfunction. Herein, we evaluated the therapeutic potential of DST for treating NAFLD through modification of the liver and stool metabolome and microbiome by using STAM mice as a model of NAFLD. STAM mice were fed a high-fat diet with or without 3 % DST for 3 weeks

The treatment of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine to cure severe immune thrombocytopenia in a patient in a minimally conscious state: a case report.

Immune thrombocytopenia is a common complication in patients in a minimally conscious state (MCS). MCS patients are prone to pulmonary infection for the reasons of long-term bed rest and tracheotomy etc., which leads to frequent immune thrombocytopenia. At present, there is no specific treatment for immune thrombocytopenia. Moreover, the cost of routine treatment is high, and clinicians need to consider different drug combinations, side effects, and the risk of drug dependence when selecting treatments. Here, we report a case of a patient in a MCS who developed immune thrombocytopenia after tr

Integrative structural and physicochemical characterization of chalcone synthase enzymes from medicinal plants using AlphaFold, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics.

Chalcone synthase (CHS) is the entry-point enzyme of the flavonoid biosynthetic pathway, catalyzing the first committed step toward the production of diverse bioactive metabolites with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. Here, we conducted a comparative in silico characterization of CHS from 13 medicinal plants, with Arabidopsis thaliana included as reference species. Protein sequences retrieved from UniProtKB were aligned using ClustalW, revealing strong conservation of key motifs, particularly the catalytic triad (Cys-His-Asn), GFGPG motif, and catalytic loop. Integrated transcriptomic analysis identifies liver aging-driven fibrosis signatures and reveals therapeutic strategies based on medicine-food homology.

Despite its strong regenerative capacity, liver aging paradoxically increases susceptibility to fibrosis and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease through dysregulated inflammation, senescence-associated secretory phenotypes, and immune-metabolic crosstalk. To systematically characterize these processes, we integrated longitudinal transcriptomics, single-cell RNA sequencing, and machine-learning approaches. We identified 252 aging-associated genes and developed an Aging Gene Score (AGS) to quantify senescence burden across hepatic cell populations. Single-cell analysis revea
