Constitutive tumor necrosis factor-alpha expression (TNF-alpha) has been detected in first trimester trophoblast cells and differentiated syncytiotrophoblasts. OBJECTIVE: Systemic inflammation predisposes acutely decompensated (AD) cirrhosis to the development of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF).
