Bullying victimization among Lebanese adolescents: The role of child abuse, Internet addiction, social phobia and depression and validation of the Illinois Bully Scale.

BACKGROUND: Both bullying victimization and perpetration were associated with depression, social phobia, physical and psychological child abuse and Internet addiction in Lebanon. The prevalence of bullying in Lebanon is alarming, with 50% of school-aged children and adolescents reporting being bullied at some point. The high rate of both bullying victimization can be reflective of the inefficacy of current prevention and intervention policies in targeting associated problematic individual and contextual factors. The objective of the present study was to analyze factors associated with bullying

Mindfulness-based therapy for adolescent internet gaming disorder: A feasibility and pilot study.

Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is prevalent in adolescents and is treatable. Mindfulness-based therapy can benefit addictive behaviors, craving, and emotion regulation. However, evidence on its effectiveness in treating IGD is still lacking. This study aims to test its feasibility and effectiveness in adolescents with IGD. In total, 23 secondary school students finished the 4-week group-based intervention. At posttest, participants reported significantly lower levels of IGD symptoms (mean difference=1.13), craving (mean difference=0.38), and higher levels of emotion regulation (mean difference

Empirical evidence for robust personality-gaming disorder associations from a large-scale international investigation applying the APA and WHO frameworks.

Disordered gaming has gained increased medical attention and was recently included in the eleventh International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) by the World Health Organization (WHO) after its earlier inclusion in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (fifth revision) (DSM-5) as an emerging disorder by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). Although many studies have investigated associations between personality and disordered gaming, no previous research compared the differential associations between personality and disordered gaming with time spent gaming. Cumulative family risk and problematic internet use among adolescents: The mediating roles of basic psychological need satisfaction and maladaptive cognition.

OBJECTIVE: Family risk factors frequently cluster together and play important roles in adolescent problematic internet use (PIU). However, the longitudinal association between cumulative family risk and PIU among adolescents and its potential mediation mechanisms are largely unexplored. Grounded in motivational theories, this study aims to examine the longitudinal association between cumulative family risk and adolescent PIU 2 years later and to determine whether this association is mediated by internal need (i.e., basic psychological need satisfaction) and external incentive (i.e., maladaptiv

Loneliness as a motivating factor for maladaptive daydreaming among Vietnamese adolescents: the role of online novel reading.

In today's world, where digital consumption is prevalent, it's crucial to reflect on the psychological effects of online behaviors. This research focuses on exploring how abnormal online novel reading (AONR) mediates the connection between feelings of loneliness and maladaptive daydreaming (MD). A survey was conducted on 388 subjects who engage in online novel reading. The results revealed that AONR serves as a partial mediator between loneliness and MD. The findings suggest that loneliness may compel individuals to seek solace in the virtual narratives of online novels, which in turn may cata
