OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between sociotropy and bulimic symptoms. Studies of interpersonal functioning among individuals with bulimia nervosa consistently reveal issues of social dependency, need for approval, and fear of rejection. These themes are conceptually related to sociotropy, a cognitive-personality factor that has been implicated in the development and maintenance of depression. Individuals high in sociotropy are keenly invested in attaining others' approval and avoiding social rejection.

This review focuses on recent research examining the relationships among eating disorders (ED) and personality disorders (PD). Studies that have examined rates of PD in patients with ED and rates of ED in patients with PD have generally reported high rates of diagnostic co-occurrence, although the marked inconsistency and variability in rates across studies is striking. Research has shown that no treatment program designed for street children can succeed unless the community is prepared to respect, protect, and provide opportunities for them (Tacon, cited in Schurink & Rip, 1993). Unfortunately, these children are abused in many parts of the world (Aptekar, 1994). Forensic psychiatric patients were assigned to empirically derived categories of personality deviation, and described their interpersonal reactions in situations of threat and affiliation. Differences between groups were maintained across situations, and support the utility of conceptualizing personality disorders in terms of inflexible interpersonal styles.

OBJECTIVE: A cognitive interpersonal maintenance model of anorexia nervosa (AN) was first proposed in 2006 and updated in 2013 (Schmidt and Treasure, J Br J Clin Psychol, 45, 343-366, 2006; Treasure and Schmidt, J Eat Disorders, in press.). BACKGROUND: Drop-out is a complex problem in mental health care and in STEPPS. Research has revealed a variety of predicting factors and has produced contradictory results.
AIM: To investigate whether the information available at the start of STEPPS can pinpoint predictors of drop-out.
METHOD: The ROM data for 150 patients were used to test the link between the following factors: age, gender, education, employment, substance abuse, anxiety, hostility, interpersonal relations, responsibility and social concordance with drop-out.
