METHODS: Institution-based cross-sectional study design was conducted. Based on the TB burden, four hospitals and six health centers were selected from Dire Dawa and Harar cities. Socio-demographic fact

Living kidney donor experiences: implications for counselling.

This study adds to previous, mostly quantitative, investigation into the experiences of living related kidney donors. Such investigation is important so that potential donors are supported effectively and donation programmes remain relevant and specific to need. Exploration takes place into donor decision-making processes and the most effective forms of professional support. A non-probability sampling technique highlighted eight living related kidney donors who were interviewed using a semi-structured interview format. Raw data was analysed through the qualitative technique of Interpretative P

Emotionally triggered asthma and its relationship to panic disorder, ataques de nervios, and asthma-related death of a loved one in Latino adults.

OBJECTIVE: Research has demonstrated high comorbidity between asthma and panic disorder (PD). Less is known about the relationship between asthma and the Latino cultural idiom of distress of ataques de nervios, as well as the role that psychosocial stressors play. The current study tested the hypotheses that Latino asthma patients who experience PD, ataques de nervios, and/or asthma-related death of a loved one endorse greater psychological triggers of asthma, greater perceived impact of asthma triggers, and greater difficulty controlling such triggers than do those without these conditions.

The current study examined the relationship between three self-report measures of psychological distress and ratings obtained from the corresponding clinician-administered measures in women seeking assessment for mental health problems following IPV ( N = 185). PTSD symptoms were assessed using the self-report Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) a

Can brief measures effectively screen for pain and somatic malingering? Examination of the Modified Somatic Perception Questionnaire and Pain Disability Index.

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Recent rise in fraudulent disability claims in the United States has resulted in psychologists being increasingly called upon to use psychological tests to determine whether disability claims based on psychological or somatic/pain complaints are legitimate. PURPOSE: To examine two brief measures, Modified Somatic Perception Questionnaire (MSPQ) and the Pain Disability Index (PDI), and their ability to screen for malingering in relation to the Bianchini et al. criteria for malingered pain-related disability published in The Spine Journal (2005). STUDY DESIGN: Examined brie

Psychosocial factors associated with poor outcomes after amputation for complex regional pain syndrome type-I.

BACKGROUND: Amputation for longstanding therapy resistant complex regional pain syndrome type-I (CRPS-I) is controversial. Reported results are inconsistent. It is assumed that psychological factors play a role in CRPS-I. OBJECTIVE: To explore which psychological factors prior to amputation are associated with poor outcomes after amputation in the case of longstanding therapy resistant CRPS-I. METHODS: Between May 2008 and August 2015, 31 patients with longstanding therapy resistant CRPS-I were amputated. Before the amputation 11 psychological factors were assessed. In 2016, participants had

Treatment experience of patients with failed in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer: a qualitative study from the perspective of the social ecosystem theory.

BACKGROUND: A growing number of couples worldwide are seeking in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) to achieve pregnancy. However, failed IVF-ET treatment inflicts multidimensional stress on patients, involving individual, familial, and social levels, yet existing research has largely focused on single-dimensional analyses. Therefore, this study aims to systematically explore the treatment experiences of patients with failed IVF-ET using the Social-Ecological Systems Theory (SEST) as a guiding framework, in order to comprehensively understand the interplay of factors across individua
