Neurofibromatosis Type 1 is a genetic disorder resulting in RAS pathway activation. As a result, risk of developing both benign and malignant neoplasms is higher, compared with the general population. Plexiform neurofibromas are benign tumors of the peripheral nerve sheath affecting 40%-50% of patients with neurofibromatosis Type 1. Cervical-parametrial plexiform neurofibroma is a very rare neoplasm. Here we present the ninth case in the literature. A 37-year-old woman presented with chronic pelvic pain and a pelvic mass that was 73 × 33 mm in size. Most of the mass was located between the pro

BACKGROUND: Endobronchial Metastasis from extrathoracic tumors is a rare neoplasm that accounts for approximately 1.1% of total endobronchial malignancies. The most common primary tumors associated with EBM are from the colorectal, breast, and kidney regions. Although it represents a late manifestation in the context of tumor progression, it can rarely antedate the diagnosis of the primary tumor.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 67-years-old male was referred from another city hospital to our thoracic surgery department due to a 4-months history of hemoptysis and productive cough. A chest X-ray and compu

OBJECTIVES: Parallel to rising obesity prevalence in Brazil, there is expected to be increased direct health care costs related to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). In this study, we estimated the economic burden of NCDs attributable to overweight and obesity in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS).
METHODS: We used self-reported body mass index of 85,715 adults from the 2019 Brazilian National Health Survey. Annual costs (1 US$ = 2.281 Reais) with inpatient and outpatient procedures were obtained from the Hospital and Ambulatory Information Systems of the Brazilian SUS. Relative risks f

Embryonal renal mesenchyme contains pluripotent progenitor cells characterized by expression of SIX2, which suppresses cellular differentiation. Additionally hypomethylation of the promotor region in renal neoplasms indicates a role of SIX2 in tumorigenesis. This study focuses therefore on the investigation of SIX2 in different renal neoplasms and the mode and consequences of SIX2 activation. Expression of SIX2 was determined in renal cell carcinomas, nephroblastomas, and dysplastic kidneys using immunohistochemistry and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Its potential mode of a

Cancer of the small intestine is a rare neoplasm, and its etiology remains poorly understood. Analysis of other primary cancers in individuals with small intestine cancer may help elucidate the causes of this neoplasm and the underlying mechanisms. We included 10,946 cases of first primary small intestine cancer from 13 cancer registries in a pooled analysis. The observed numbers of 44 types of second primary cancer were compared to the expected numbers derived from the age-, gender- and calendar period-specific cancer incidence rates in each registry. We also calculated the standardized incid

Renal neuroendocrine neoplasms are exceptionally rare and may mimic renal cell carcinoma on imaging. A 48-year-old man presented with one week of left flank pain. Ultrasound showed bilateral renal masses with a left subcapsular hematoma. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated multiple solid lesions in both kidneys with marked diffusion restriction, accompanied by a pancreatic uncinate mass, a right adrenal lesion, renal hilar lymphadenopathy, and a right retroperitoneal nodule. The patient underwent left nephrectomy and pancreatic biopsy. Histopathology confirmed neuro

Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) rarely causes glomerular disease. While immune complex-mediated and infiltrative lesions predominate, podocytopathies are exceptionally rare. We report a case of reversible focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) occurring in the setting of blastoid-variant MCL, highlighting the paraneoplastic nature of the podocyte injury. A 69-year-old man presented with nephrotic syndrome and dialysis-dependent acute kidney injury (AKI). Kidney biopsy revealed FSGS. Subsequent diagnostic evaluation uncovered blastoid-variant MCL. Following lymphoma-directed chemotherapy, nephrot

Multiorgan cysts, affecting multiple organs such as the liver, kidneys, and pancreas, pose a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The etiology is diverse, including congenital conditions, like polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome, as well as secondary causes, like infection or neoplasms. The clinical presentation ranges from incidental findings to life-threatening complications. This case report discusses a 65-year-old female patient who presented with abdominal pain and was incidentally found to have hepatic, renal, and pancreatic cysts. Diagnostic workup, inc

Renal tumors that develop in congenitally malformed kidneys often fall outside standard histologic classifications. We present an unusual renal neoplasm in a 19-year-old boy with a hypoplastic right kidney. Computed tomography revealed a 70-mm sized unilocular cyst containing a 25-mm sized mural nodule, and laparoscopic nephroureterectomy was performed. Histologic examination showed low-grade papillary structures with reverse polarity. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated cytoplasmic (but not membranous) CA9 positivity, and RNA sequencing identified a pathogenic von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) splicing-s

Kidney tubular disorders due to monoclonal immunoglobulin light chains are common manifestations of B-cell neoplasm. Cast nephropathy (CN) is the most frequent type of these disorders and may present with acute kidney injury (AKI) due to the presence of excess light chains in the distal tubules. Light chain proximal tubulopathy (LCPT) is an uncommon form of renal disease and may present as Fanconi syndrome due to proximal tubular cell damage by intracellular deposition of light chains. The concomitant disorder of both CN and LCPT is rare given the inherent differences in the biochemical proper

Epithelioid sarcoma (ES) is a malignant mesenchymal neoplasm with some morphologic or immunophenotypic evidence of epithelial differentiation. The "classic" subtype occurs in younger patients, often in distal extremities as compared with the "proximal" type. Tumors of the proximal type primarily arising in solid organs are rare with only few case reports in the literature. We report 2 cases of primary ES in the kidney of a 27-year-old woman and the adrenal gland of a 73-year-old man. Clinical examination and imaging, including computed tomography and positron-emission tomography, did not revea

BACKGROUND: Primary angiosarcoma of the kidney is a rare and aggressive malignant tumor presenting with a recognizable vascular differentiation. Its prognosis is fatal and the pathogenesis remains unclear. Renal angiomyolipoma is a relatively infrequent renal cortical neoplasm and is composed of variable proportions of adipose tissue, spindle cells, epithelioid smooth muscle cells and abnormal thick-walled blood vessels.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we reported a case in which a 64-year-old woman presenting with the chief complaint of a progressively enlarged mass in the left abdomen. Abdominal c

Percutaneous drainage proved to be successful in managing a renal subcapsular haematoma that was causing acute renal failure and hypertension in a 74-year-old woman. The patient presented with oliguria, nausea and malaise 2 days after a ureteronephroscopic procedure with biopsies of a suspected urothelial neoplasm in the right renal pelvis. The left kidney had recently been removed due to renal cell carcinoma. At admission, the patient's blood pressure and plasma creatinine levels were massively elevated. Ultrasonography revealed a moderate right-sided renal subcapsular haematoma. When the pat

Renal angiomyolipoma (AML) is a benign neoplasm of the kidney arising sporadically in an idiopathic manner, or syndromically as a component of tuberous sclerosis complex. Although the classic AML has no malignant potential, and is the most common mesenchymal tumor of the kidney, variant AML cases with epithelioid morphology have demonstrated aggressive or invasive behavior. Classic AML, on the other hand, can occasionally display focal histology concerning for sarcomatous transformation, but in the absence of invasive features, it is easy to distinguish from a malignancy. In this article, we d

Primary renal extra-osseous osteosarcoma is an exceedingly rare and deadly kidney neoplasm with only 27 reported cases to date. Extra-osseous osteosarcoma is a mesenchymal sarcoma that produces osteoid, but has no skeletal or periosteal involvement and most commonly arises in the lower extremities. Yet, it can arise in other locations such as the kidney. Extra-osseous osteosarcoma behaves as a separate entity from osseous osteosarcoma and should be treated as such. The treatment is surgical resection. Five year overall survival is 46% for local and 10% for metastatic disease. Additionally, 45%

Tuberous sclerosis (TS) is a multiple-system disease involving the brain, skin, kidneys, heart and other visceral organs. There were 18 children with TS at our clinic, and complete studies of these patients and their families were performed. Male to female ratio was 11:7. Age at diagnosis was from 1 month to 18 years. Seizures (infantile spasm, generalized and partial epilepsy), skin lesions and intracranial calcifications were the most common clinical manifestations. Mental retardation was closely correlated with seizure attacks. Neoplasms of the brain, retina, heart, lung and kidneys were al

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to characterize the causes of death and compute the risk of mortality due to each cause among patients with malignant adrenal tumours.
METHODS: Data from malignant adrenal tumour patients were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database (2004-2020). With reference data from the general population, the standardized mortality ratio (SMR) was calculated to assess all causes of death for malignant adrenal tumour patients.
RESULTS: A total of 1651 patients who died from primary malignant adrenal neoplasms were included; 854 cases of a

INTRODUCTION: The sinonasal tumors belong to rare diseases. They state 0.2-0.8% of all the malignant neoplasms and about 3% of head and neck tumors. These tumors are two times frequent observed in men than in women, mainly between 50 and 70 years old. In the sinonasal complex besides the primary are seen also the metastatic tumors. They state about 1% of all tumors (kidney, testum, breast, pulmonary).
AIM: The aim of our study was to retrospective analysis of the sinonasal tumors, treated in the ENT Department Silesian Medical University in Zabrze. The special attention was carried on the pre

The effect of diets high in an unsaturated fat on the enhancement of pancreatic carcinogenesis in saline-treated rats and in rats treated with N-nitroso(2-hydroxypropyl)(2-oxopropyl)amine (HPOP) was examined. Young male LEW rats were treated with a single dose of HPOP (160 mg/kg body wt) or saline, fed diets containing 5 or 20% corn oil, and then autopsied 12 months later. The pancreata of HPOP-treated rats fed the diet with 5% fat contained multiple foci and nodules of atypical acinar cells (AACN), acinar cell adenomas, and localized carcinomas. Rats fed the diet with 20% fat developed a simi
