Is an excessively high posterior tibial slope a predisposition to knee injuries in children? Systematic review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: The literature agrees that an increased posterior tibial slope (PTS) increases the risk of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture in adults. However, there is no consensus on the average normal value and it varies with growth. We carried out a systematic review of the literature to answer 4 questions faced with an increase in PTS in children: METHOD: We conducted a systematic review of the literature in accordance with PRISMA criteria. The inclusion criteria were all studies analyzing the association between increased PTS and the occurrence of knee disease in patients, the majori

Longitudinal Progression of Traumatic Bone Marrow Lesions Following Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury: Associations With Knee Pain and Concomitant Injuries.

Traumatic bone marrow lesions (BMLs) occur in ~80% of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, typically in the lateral femoral condyle (LFC) and lateral tibial plateau (LTP). Associated with microfractures, vascular proliferation, inflammation, and bone density changes, BMLs may contribute to posttraumatic osteoarthritis. However, their relationship with knee pain is unclear. This study examined the prevalence, characteristics, and progression of BMLs after ACL injury, focusing on associations with pain, meniscal and ligament injuries, and fractures. Participants (N = 100, aged 14-55) with

The evaluation of strength imbalances as risk factor for contactless injuries of the knee and thigh: a critical review.

Contact injuries are difficult to prevent in sports because of the influence of many uncontrollable factors. Non-contact injuries, on the other hand, appear to be controllable and therefore predictable due to their exclusively internal nature. Nevertheless, the scientific community is still searching in vain for indicators to reliably predict the likelihood of injuries to athletes in order to prevent them. Therefore, a critical review of published data was conducted to discuss the current evaluation of strength imbalances as risk factors for contactless knee and thigh injuries. Different appro

Inclusion of open injuries in an updated Schenck classification of knee dislocations based on a global Delphi consensus study.

OBJECTIVES: Knee dislocations (KDs) are complex injuries defined as incongruity of the tibiofemoral joint, which leads to tears of two or more of the main stabilising knee ligaments, and they are often associated with damage to surrounding soft tissue or neurovascular structures. A classification system for these injuries should be simple and reproducible and allow communication among surgeons for surgical planning and outcome prediction. The aim of this study was to formulate a list of factors, prioritised by high-volume knee surgeons, that should be included in a KD classification system. M
