Superior oblique paresis after endoscopic brow lift: A case report.

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: Although a forehead lift is generally a safe surgery, it has well-known complications. Iatrogenic SO paresis is one of the rare complications following forehead lifting procedures which almost resolves spontaneously. ABSTRACT: This report aims to introduce a woman with superior oblique (SO) muscle paresis following the brow and forehead lift procedure. A 30-year-old woman with a history of brow and forehead lift surgery was referred to the ophthalmic emergency department complaining of vertical diplopia. A right eye hypertropia was obvious at the left gaze. A Park's thre…

[Graftless maxillary sinus lift with simultaneous implant placement: a case report].

A maxillary sinus lift was performed without bone grafting in a 23-year-old female patient who required the placement of a dental implant in the edentulous area of tooth 16. The clinical and tomographic evaluation made it possible to plan and perform the maxillary sinus lift using the transcrestal approach and without the need for bone grafting. The residual ridge of 6mm allowed the placement of a simultaneous dental implant. After 6 months of tomographic follow-up, before prosthetic loading, a vertical bone height of 8.83 mm was achieved, resulting in a vertical bone gain of 2.83 mm. Addition

Brow Lift Through The Upper Blepharoplasty Incision: Prospective Clinical Study.

BACKGROUND: Eyebrow tail ptosis is usually associated with dermatochalasis of the upper eyelid, and it is necessary to treat them together. For these associated procedures to be incorporated as a routine in upper eyelid surgeries, they should preferably be less invasive with consequent fewer complications. OBJECTIVE: We describe a minimally invasive technique for the correction of mild-to-moderate eyebrow tail ptosis corrected together with superior dermatochalasis through the blepharoplasty incision. METHODS: A phase 2 clinical trial was conducted from February 2020 to December 2021. A tota

Resorbable magnesium metal membrane for sinus lift procedures: a case series.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this case series was to demonstrate the use of a magnesium membrane for repairing the perforated membrane in both direct and indirect approaches, as well as its application in instances where there has been a tear of the Schneiderian membrane. CASE PRESENTATION: The case series included four individual cases, each demonstrating the application of a magnesium membrane followed by bone augmentation using a mixture of xenograft and allograft material in the sinus cavity. In the first three cases, rupture of Schneiderian membrane occurred as a result of tooth extraction

Face Lift after Facial Feminization Surgery: Indications and Special Considerations.

Iatrogenic jowling can be an unintended consequence of facial feminization surgery. Reduction of the mandible and chin without overlying changes to the soft tissue can lead to a redundant and deflated soft-tissue envelope, requiring a face lift to address jowling, cervicofacial laxity, and/or lower facial rhytids. Prospective quality-of-life outcomes data support this hypothesis, as patients who underwent mandible contouring with or without angle osteotomies were significantly more likely to express interest in face lift following facial feminization surgery on univariable analysis (90.0 perce

Analysis of the Outcome of Reoperative Face Lifts Using Sub-SMAS Techniques.

BACKGROUND: Reoperative face lift can be technically more demanding than primary face lift because of altered anatomy and scarred tissue plane. This study was carried out to analyze the outcome of reoperative face lift using sub-superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) techniques, including facial nerve injury. METHODS: Seventy reoperative face lifts using sub-SMAS techniques were studied. Data analysis includes the patients' demographic information, the interval between the previous face lift and the reoperative face lift, intraoperative findings of the SMAS-platysma anatomy, complicatio

Short implants (≤6mm) as an alternative treatment option to maxillary sinus lift.

The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate survival rate of short dental implants placed in the posterior area of the maxilla. The electronic literature search of studies published between January 1, 2010 and February 29, 2020 was performed using specific word combinations. The outcome was to meta-analyse the implant survival rate (ISR). The search generated 238 potential studies. After screening procedures, only nine randomized controlled trials fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were selected for qualitative and quantitative analysis. ISR of short implants ranged from 91.9% to 100%,

Tenting effect of dental implant on maxillary sinus lift without grafting.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Maxillary sinus lift without grafting is an alternative procedure that is used to lower the risk of infection and facilitate the surgical procedure. The objective of this study was to evaluate the tenting effect of the dental implant by measuring the amount and morphology of bone formation around it. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 49 implants were placed in 26 patients by maxillary sinus lift without grafting. Radiographic images were taken preoperatively and at 6 months postoperatively and used to evaluate the height of the residual bone, the width of the maxillary sinus, the amou

[Effect of anatomical parameters of maxillary sinus on the outcomes of transcrestal sinus lift].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of three anatomical parameters (maxillary sinus width, maxillary sinus angle, and residual bone height) on the outcomes of transcrestal sinus lift with simultaneous implant placement. METHODS: A total of 60 maxillary sinuses in 42 patients were included in this study. All patients were treated with transcrestal sinus lift procedure associated with simultaneous implant placement using a composite graft material of autogenous bone and Bio-Oss. For each patient, beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were performed preoperatively, immediately after surgery, an

Neck Lift: Defining Anatomic Problems and Choosing Appropriate Treatment Strategies.

Success or failure in treating the neck lies in the diagnosis of underlying problems and the application of a logical surgical plan. Although it is a commonly advocated practice, it is not enough to perform submental liposuction and tighten the skin in most patients, as such an approach ignores a number of anatomic problems present in many patients seeking neck improvement. Removing subcutaneous fat and tightening skin over these problems does not correct them, and the presence or absence of each must be looked for to create and apply an appropriate surgical plan.

Mandibular Rim Trilogy with Botulinum Toxin Injection: Reduction, Projection, and Lift.

"Onabotulinum toxin A (Botox) revolution" has brought the fundamental change in the facial rejuvenation as well as the concept of microinjection. The aesthetic standard tends to be the "globalization"; however, Asians have different aesthetic cultures and unique facial features compared with Caucasians. A new rejuvenation concept is proposed during our practice; the Asian face should preserve the original facial identity during Botox treatments. The lower face is treated with botulinum toxin to achieve a harmonious facial profile. Twenty young females ranging in age from 30 to 45 years consent

Palatal lift prosthesis for bolus transport in a patient with dysphagia: A clinical report.

A palatal lift prosthesis (PLP) is an intraoral device that provides lift for the soft palate. The usual purpose of a PLP is to reduce nasopharyngeal reflux and the hypernasal speech caused by velopharyngeal incompetence. However, for this patient, the main purpose was to relieve a functional blockage at the oropharyngeal isthmus by suspending the soft palate. A PLP with soft and flexible lift was applied in a patient with a traumatic brain injury and dysphagia. The PLP improved oropharyngeal bolus transit time by relieving the blockage at the oropharyngeal isthmus. This type of PLP may help t

Crestal sinus lift by using a mini-invasive procedure: a case series.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to present a case series treated with an atraumatic procedure for maxillary sinus lift by crestal approach. This technique avoids the use of classical osteotomes, thus decreasing complications due to percussive and vibratory forces. METHODS: Three cases of partial edentulism in the distal maxillae with inadequate bone volume are treated by using SinCrest procedure (Meta, Reggio Emilia, Italy). With the guide of surgical templates, the sinus lift was performed, and implants were placed during the same procedure. After 6 months an X-ray was taken to check t

Maxillary sinus lift surgery-with or without graft material? A systematic review.

The purpose of this systematic review was to perform a comparative analysis of the use or not of graft material in maxillary sinus lift surgery. Relevant studies published in the last 10 years were identified through a search of the PubMed/MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, and Cochrane Library databases and were assessed against the study inclusion and exclusion criteria. The initial search resulted in 1037 articles. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 16 articles remained. Four hundred and thirty-six patients were followed up over a postoperative period ranging from 6 months to 11 year

The versatility of the medial thigh lift for defect coverage in the genito-perineal region.

Soft tissue defects in the genito-perineal region are predominantly because of trauma, infections, neoplasms or iatrogenic causes. As a result of the region's urological, reproductive and gastrointestinal function, defects in this area may cause devastating physical and psychological consequences as well as diminished sexual functioning. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of implementing a medial thigh lift for defect coverage in the perineal region. A retrospective analysis of all medial thigh lift procedures for defect coverage in the genito-perineal region between Novembe
